Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Principal's Letter
Dear Prairie Point Parents:
Happy December! It is an exciting and happy time of year. We have a lot of things going on at Prairie Point in relation to the holidays. I encourage you to visit our giving tree in the foyer at Prairie Point. We have boxes under the tree to collect hats, mittens, and scarves for the Oswego Optimists Club. We also have paper ornaments on the tree identifying gifts to be given to children at the Kendall County Food Pantry. If you’ve taken an ornament, the presents are due in the office on December 9th. Please attach the ornament to the unwrapped present. In the foyer, we also have a box collecting coats for children through the Oswego Rotary Club.
Each year at this time, it’s a common practice for us to be setting “New Year’s Resolutions.” If you’re like me, those resolutions are probably broken pretty quickly. Over the past few years, I have engaged in an activity to identify one word that will guide our lives, both personally and professionally, throughout the year. This is based on a book by Jon Gordon called One Word. While last year’s word was “Courage” my word for the year is “Passion.” Those who work in education do so because we are passionate about our profession. It’s a calling – I can’t imagine not working with children and dedicating my professional life to helping them achieve their goals and aspirations.
I have always believed that Prairie Point is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow, and I am impressed at the passion our community shows in ensuring that we continue to foster such an environment for our kids. Children will always come first at Prairie Point.
I encourage you to think of a word that can guide you and your family into the New Year. More information can be found at http://www.getoneword.com.
As always, Mrs. Kern and I are here to support you. If you need assistance, please feel free to contact us. We wish you a safe, warm, and loving holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Heidi Podjasek
Prairie Point Caring Tree
Caring Tree Gifts are Due Wednesday, December 9th
Please attach the gift tag to the unwrapped gift and thank you for your
generosity this holiday season.
P.E. Reminder
Dear Parents,
The P.E. Department would like to remind you to provide your child with a pair of gym shoes to be left at school. Now that winter is upon us, many students have missed P.E. due to having boots. It's also helpful if all students are able to tie their shoes. THANK YOU!
Oswego Optimist Club Hats & Mittens Due Thursday, December 17th
Starting Monday, November 2nd through Thursday, December 17th, Prairie Point Elementary will be collecting Hats & Mittens for the Oswego Optimist Club. Collection boxes will be located in the Main Hallway. Thank you for your continued support.
Home & School President's Message
Dear Prairie Point Families and Staff,
Happy December! So far, we are having a mild start to our winter. I don’t know about you but I could handle these temps through March!
I would like to thank all of you who donated treats for the staff during Parent/Teacher conferences and the Father/Son movie night. Kuddos to Appreciation and Father’s Forum for all of their hard work.
Prairie Point’s first Veteran’s Day celebration was amazing. How special that our school could invite veterans to come and eat with their Prairie Point family members. Mrs. Niles and Mrs. Muldoon planned a great event and we had some wonderful parent volunteers come in to assist. But the topper was the 5th Grade Musical, lead by our awesome music man, Mr. Hafenrichter! If you were not able to see the musical, please visit the Home & School and the Prairie Point Facebook pages. Great job everyone.
Kindergarteners and 1st graders had a great time at their open gym night. Thank you Health and Wellness Committee.
Our next Tuesday Night Dinner is at McDonald’s. They are donating 10% of all sales from 4-7.
Candy Cane Lane Holiday Shop and Boutique Craft and Vendor show is next Friday, the 11th. This is an event for the whole family. The kids can shop in the community room, while the adults shop in the gym. And we have really unique items this year. Don’t miss this incredible night!
I encourage you to attend a meeting and volunteer at the various events conducted throughout the school year! We are only as strong as our supporters. And when you come to a meeting you earn an opportunity to have lunch with your student!!
Please be sure to stay in touch with us on Facebook. Our link is Prairie Point Elementary Home & School–Home of the Panthers.
Have a safe, fun and joyous holiday season!
