TEACH

Ask students to justify answers. I'm hearing this more often in your classrooms.

Closely monitor.

Have a bell ringer.


Lesson Plans should be completed in Forethought by each deadline. After team lessons have been revised per coach feedback, it is expected and required that you move the plans into your personal planner prior to the week they are taught. Thanks for your help with this.


As you plan, use these additional questions to guide your planning:

  1. What do we want students to learn?

  2. How will we know that they have learned it?

  3. How will we plan and deliver quality instruction so that students are likely to learn it the first time?

  4. How will we respond when students have already learned it?

  5. How will we respond when some students have not learned it?

In response to #3, I DO, WE DO, YOU Do is our focus. Our coaches report that the alignment, modeling and questioning in your lessons is improving each week. Keep up the good work. I'm so proud of each of you!


Attendance

Turn in your attendance notes to Ms. Godfrey by 8:05. Every parent of every student is called by Ms. Godfrey or Mrs. Sykes to try to boost our attendance.


Morning Meeting

Class Leaders (on stage)-

Spotlight Focus-Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Super Behavior, Special Areas

Students should receive brag tags at the beginning of morning meeting.


PDAS Appraisal Window-Action Required

  • If you would like to schedule a pre-conference, please schedule through Karen Morgan.


  • If there is any time during the 2 week window that your schedule would not be conducive to a 45 minute appraisal, please make your appraiser aware.


  • During your 2 week window, leave a folder on your desk with a seating chart, lesson plans, handouts, and any other pertinent information you’d like for us to have or know.


Academy Day

Goal-Planning for Instruction on Academy Day

We will be learning about TPSP (Texas Performance Student Project).

Planning for instruction on Wednesdays should always begin with your S.E.’s. and then be framed with the 4 C’s (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) in mind. More info- 4C's Poster, 21st Century Skills,Exemplar Program

Very proud of several grade levels for mixing up the students and exploring more project based learning.

Next IDT meeting- Nov. 19

During this meeting, all data should be completed through the end of the second six weeks, including report card.

• How are you using this data to adjust instruction and/or differentiate in your classroom?

• What are you doing for high performing students so they will continue to

excel academically?


Special Education/504

Please bring your binder to the ARD/504 meetings. Remember that the binder is the best place to file examples of modified work for documentation and helps us to make informed decisions about needed accommodations/modifications. Within a school day, new IEP’s, modifications/accommodations etc. will be provided to you and they should filed in your binder. If you do not receive them, contact the student’s case manager.



Dress Code-Classroom teachers are the first line of defense!

Are you setting a good example?

Students should be sent to the office by 8:15 a.m.


I Can Statements

Don't forget to post I can statements on work posted in hallway. Remember that the work posted in the hallway should be each student's best work. Proud of you for making use of our wall real estate!

Content objectives should be displayed in student friendly language (I can) on board, chart or wall and be visible to the student. The content being taught should match a posted I can statement. Language objectives should begin with I will and be aligned to the instruction. I will statements are beneficial, not only for ELL students, but for under-resourced learners, as well.


Duty

Being on time for duty is critical to the safety of our children!

Rev. Miles models the patience and consistency that many of our students are missing in their lives. We appreciate him. We all know that bad habits are hard to extinguish. We have to be a really good team to turn it around. We're so thankful that Rev. Miles is a member of our team.


Mrs. Morgan and I both agree that the Veteran's Day program was one of our proudest moments at Sam Houston Elementary. Mrs. Gibson's vision and leadership was phenomenal. Thanks to every single person who helped to make it happen. It took the work of many to bring it to fruition. Our guests were so honored and proud. Hope we can make it an annual tradition!


So very proud of our teacher of the month, Missy Martinez!

A special thank you is extended to fourth grade for the refreshments during our staff meeting. We appreciate Commerce National Bank for sponsoring the special treats.


Our fourth and fifth graders had the highest science test scores in the district on their most recent assessments. Mrs. Jenson and Mrs. Kubesch rock!


Mrs. Van Etten has vocab, thinking, TTM stations and face time with interactive whiteboard going on in her classroom. Planning with the students best interest at heart is her ultimate goal. She makes us want to jump for joy!
