Colt Round Up
august 2019
"Most people remember the ending of the book more than the beginning and the middle."
~ Bernard Hopkins (professional boxer)
This has been a remarkable year full of individual and collective growth. I've learned a lot, but I'm also intensely proud of the work we've done together. Thank you for the journey.
SBAC / i Ready Data
we participated in a study that compared iReady scores to SBAC scores. In 3rd grade ELA, 78% of our student performed as iReady predicted they would. 17% performed worse than iReady predicted they would and 4.5% performed better than iReady predicted. This study suggests that iReady is a strong predictor of SBAC readiness.
continuous improvement celebrations
With Appreciation:
- Big thanks to Aly for going the extra mile to provide resources to families for summer and middle school success!
- Kudos to our lunch crew and our campus supervisor team for their flexibility with lunches. The supervisor team really knocked it out of the park with a fun 'field day' this past Thursday for 4th grade and our stay-back 5th graders!
- Bravo to Jenny, Laura, and Annie for supervising our 5th graders on their trip to Fort Bragg. The whole 5th grade team has been working to prepare for this trip for months, and it came together so well! The kids had a blast and the memories will last a lifetime!
Staff End of Year Social
We've invited our new staff to join us too...Lyndsay and Angie may pop in for a bit so you can introduce yourself. I don't think Katelyn will make it up from the Bay Area, though - it's her last day of school!
Report Card Reminders
- You should have your science & music grades on hand - thank you to Shelly, Jenny, Annie & Allison for their work on those.
- Please put a copy of the school supply form and the online supply order flier in your student's report card folders.
- One bit of feedback we got on our survey is info about families wondering what to expect and how to use the summer to prepare for the upcoming year. What might that mean for your students?
If you need any support so you can finish any last assessments, let Jen/Kristen know!

School Supplies for 2019-20
Early this week, you'll get color fliers re. the online order option and a second pink flier with the supplies requested for TK-5. Please put both of these in your report card folders or your end of the year materials that will be seen by families. Here is the flier re. online ordering. Here is the TK-5 supply list if families prefer to shop on their own.
These docs are available in our public calendar, too.
Do you have a district iPad?
We need to collect them in one location so the district can update them this summer. Note that updating them will mean that they are wiped so any files or pictures saved on the device need to be backed up in some way. They should be able to do so on their computers and load them to their google drive or any other cloud app.
Please put blue tape (or something similar) on your device with your name & classroom # written on it and bring them to the office before you check out for the year. We'll get them back to you in August.
If you need help with backing up files, do let Annie or Kristen know.
Access to Campus Over the Summer
Rob and Arty work all summer (except for holidays like July 4th). The office will be open for one week after school is out, but Pam and/or Jen work until the end of June. If you need to access the campus in the evening/on a weekend, feel free to use your alarm card. Call Jen on her cell (702 324 6884) if you need anything at any point this summer.
Quick Reminders
- Summer PD offerings are available to review & sign up for online. My understanding is that the teacher daily rate will be offered. Click here to view the spreadsheet.
- If you plan to order items with 2019-20 funds, you can turn in POs before school is out and we'll process them in late July/early August!
- The district nurse has indicated that students can bring their own sunscreen & chapstick to school. Three rules with the sunscreen - no aerosols, they have to be able to apply it without help from staff/peers, and students cannot share their sunscreen with peers. I sent out a reminder again that students CANNOT bring OTC or prescription allergy (or other meds) to school. If you see this happening, please let Jen know ASAP so we can follow up with the family
New Updates to our Staff Portal
All staff can access our staff portal by clicking on the "Staff Portal" link on our LCES website. Recent updates:
- updated directions on how to assign iReady assessments; under "iReady - how to assign..."
- Kristen added awesome resources to the Safety tab...check in out!
Gate Duty
The gate is covered through the rest of the year - thank you, thank you, thank you!
Upcoming Meetings/Activities
Where is Jen This Week?
June 3-7:
On campus all week, but there is LOTS going on. If you need me, call the office and the office team can find me or Kristen.
Summer:
I'll be working on campus (on some level) through the end of June, I'll be in SD for the AVID conference in late July and back in the office in August. If you need anything in July, though, I'll be around. Please don't hesitate to call/text if you need anything - 702 324 6884.
Where is Kristen This Week?
It's a Great Day to be a Colt!
The mission of the Lincoln Crossing Elementary School team is to prepare our students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become lifelong learners and responsible, contributing members of society.
