A Memorial Day to Remember
These timeless words from President Harry Truman's are found on the wall of the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.. While meant specifically for the heroes of his time, they speak for all who have fallen in the defense of freedom, as well as the living who battle selflessly today for the welfare of others. Truman's words bring Memorial Day 2020 into sharp focus as we mark this profound holiday, as well as the unofficial start of Summer, in ways we never could have imagined a mere three months ago.
And yet, we are here -- together in a new way. It's awkward, incomplete, and often frustrating, but we are doing our best. We can, and we will, make it through. Every generation has a unique vantage point in history. Yours is being formed here and now, together with students like you all over the world. You will always have this bond of experience, this mutual understanding of what it meant to be in high school in 2020. You are united in a time of global pain and recovery. Imagine the unexpected outcomes from this universal empathy.
And now in our tenth week, you know that even though the LMC doors are closed, we are here to help in any way we can. Just send us an email and we'll respond. We'd especially love to hear how you are doing, we miss you.
Stronger together,
Ms. Matz & Mrs. Tindall

Mountaineer Book Club
"Picture Us in the Light," by Kelly Loy Gilbert is a vivid portrait of a largely Asian-American community, diverse in terms of socio-economic status, ethnicity, and religious faith. . . The book is suffused with the warmth of the characters’ love for one another. Imperfect in their human frailty and noble in their desire to do the best they can, they are universally recognizable and sympathetic.

Fun & Games in the LMC Makerspace
It's all in the cards . . .
All you need to play solitaire is a deck of cards. Really! Before the introduction of digital solitaire in the 1980s, players used a deck of 52 playing cards, shuffling by hand, and placing cards in specific patterns of piles. Solitaire, or "Patience" as it was known in England, traces its origins to the mid 18th century and has had such illustrious fans as Napoleon.
If you've never played Solitaire with actual cards, find a deck and click on this link for a five-minute tutorial. Have fun!
