Roselawn Families:
The weather last week was interesting for sure! The Roselawn FIVE didn't get sent out and we are combining the January 28th and February 4th editions.
Glad to see everybody back and lets hope for a full week!
Enjoy this week's Roselawn FIVE!
#1 - Variety Show Planning Starts NOW!
The 24th Annual Variety Show will be presented on Friday, March 22nd at 7:00 pm on the CW Stage located in the Middle School Gym. We are currently seeking a variety of student talent to showcase on our stage! We have always had accomplished singers and dancers yet we have also enjoyed jump rope routines, slam poetry, comedy routines, garage bands and novelty acts. The possibilities are endless. This is an auditioned show. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 26th and Wednesday, February 27th from 3:45-5:30 pm in the HS Choir Room. All interested students MUST sign up for an audition time by Friday, February 22nd with Miss Neby with a signed permission slip. All acts should be 3-5 minutes in length, well prepared, appropriate for a family audience and appropriate for the age of the performer. If you have any questions please contact Miss Neby at Roselawn Elementary.
#2 - PTO Events Coming Up - Milk Moola Tops Needed!
The next big PTO event coming up is Doughnuts with Dad on February 22, 2019. Look for more details on this event coming out soon. Last year we ordered over 600 doughnuts for this wonderful event!
The next PTO meeting is Monday, February 4, 2019 at Roselawn Elementary.
Also, the PTO is asking parents if you have Milk Moola Caps to please turn them into Roselawn Elementary front office. The PTO has until the March to submit these tops, so if you have anything lying around please collect them and send them in.
It is much appreciated!
#3 - What is a "booster"?
What is a booster? We do an excellent job of collecting data on the academic side through formative assessments, teacher observations, and nationally normed tests. We then use this data to support student learning. We also have a similar approach on the behavior side of things.
Your son or daughter may have mentioned something about "minor referrals" or "major referrals." We do collect minor and major referrals, but they are not intended to be a consequence. They are used to help us look at behavioral data to support certain behaviors, areas where behaviors are occurring, or even students. If there are certain behaviors that are surfacing or areas where undesired behaviors are happening a lot, we create a booster to support this. A booster focuses on one behavior or area, teaches the behavior to all students, corrects undesired behaviors, acknowledges students at high rates around this behavior, and then celebrates when we are successful in improving the behavior.
#4 - Young Authors Conference Coming Up
The Young Authors Conference is for students in grades 2-5. It will be at Rice Lake Tainter School from 8:00 – 11:30 on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Students must make a book. This can be done in class, on their own, or a combination of the two. Just wanted to give staff a heads up on the date, so you could start saving student writing now. Some students have brought a collection of their writings from class in a plastic report cover to share, some use the blank books, some create pop up books, some use construction paper or wallpaper for covers. Some teachers have helped students bind a book with the plastic binders in the photocopy room. The cost for students will be $7.50 as the PTO has agreed to pay half of the $15 conference fee.
The featured local author this year will be Manley Peterson. The books he has written are: Bloated Goat, Do You Know Your Animals, Problem At The Park, Words Can Be Great, and Four Scary Stories For Kids. The conference has a session for the kids to share the writing they bring, a session to do an art project using ideas from the featured author’s books, a snack, and a session to learn about writing with the featured author Manley Peterson.
