Classroom Update

Dispatches from the Fifth Grade

BUSY WEEK AHEAD! :)

Hello, parents -

I hope you are enjoying your Sundays. Before afternoon slips into evening, I wanted to alert you to the chaotic nature of the upcoming week. Please note the following items:

1. IOWAs: Fifth grade students will be taking the IOWA standardized tests Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning. Please make sure your student arrives to school before 8:00AM, otherwise they will need to do the Make-Up session later in the week. We will be finished by recess each of the three mornings.

2. Public Speaking: Students will recite their public speaking selections in homeroom this Thursday afternoon from 2:00-4:00. They have been working hard to memorize and embody the tone and content of their pieces - I can't wait to see them! Finals will be held on March 12th from 11:00-12:00 in Locke Center.

3. Parent Conferences: Middle School parent conferences are this Thursday and Friday. I will email my most recent copy of the schedule tomorrow morning - please let me know if you need to change or add a time to meet. Please note that there is no school for students this Friday, due to conferences.

Recent Work

Newbery Book Project

Students brought in their Newbery projects last week, and they were AMAZING! We had book jackets, board games, dioramas, epilogues, and scrapbooks. Excellent work all around!

Digital Storytelling

We recently tried something new with our Weekly Writing assignments. Students chose a web-based digital storytelling tool and created a new story, or retold a previous one in a different medium. We have only just begun to share our work, but the results so far have been incredible. If you haven't already done so, check out your students work - it will also be added to their digital portfolios later this week.

See you soon!

As always, please feel free to contact me anytime with questions, concerns, insights, or suggestions. I look forward to seeing you at our conference soon!
