The Pastor's Perspective
Charge Conference Traditions
On Sunday November 12th at 1:00pm, Crossroads UMC will hold our annual charge conference meeting. I’ve done a lot of these and they are an interesting moment in the life of the church. We look ahead and behind us to see where God is leading us.
The by-laws of our church say that we elect leadership, recommend candidates for ministry, and vote on the pastor’s salary. This basic business of the church is an oral report and is done with openness and transparency. If you attend the meeting, then you know what the future of our church will be looking like.
The charge conference reports that are not read out loud tell the story of the church over the last 12 months. The Trustees report provides documentation on our legal standing in the community and real estate and building values. The Finance committee provides a snapshot into our funds and our budget. The pastor’s report has the data on membership such as deaths, transfers, baptisms, professions of faith, and withdrawals. We look back to see where we’ve been.
A meeting might be the last place you’d think the Holy Spirit is active. I would argue it’s the opposite. Whenever the body of Christ gathers, we are doing sacred work. God’s grace is blessing the hopes of our community for next year. God’s love is evident in the lists of names of our friends who died in the past year. God’s life is evident in the documentation of our faithfulness in funding and our facilities.
Come and join us for this holy annual meeting November 12th at 1:00pm. I think we’ll easily be done by 2:00pm.
In Christ,

All Saints Sunday
On Sunday, November 5th during the 8:45am and 11:00am worship services, we will hold our annual All Saints Day service. This is a worship service dedicated to the memory of our members who have passed away in the last year. Those we are honoring are Bea Hester, Jack Dickerson, Natalie Oliver, Ann Guest, and Randy Ashton. To honor each of their families, their names will be read and each family will receive a special gift. You will also have the opportunity to lift up the names of those people special to you who have passed away. Please join us for this meaningful time of worship.
Operation Christmas Child
Flood Buckets
The storm clean up efforts have begun and UMCOR needs our help. As the North Georgia Disaster Response Team coordinates across the Conference and across the connection, two priorities continue to rise to the top: Prayer and UMCOR funding. This year at the Crossroads Men’s BBQ, we will be collecting supplies and financial donations to help support UMCOR and the Early Response Team. Please donate a Cleaning Bucket or any of the supplies shown to help assemble a Bucket. During the BBQ we will take the supplies donated and assemble Buckets. Please join us and help make buckets. We also have Buckets set up to collect funds if you prefer to donate financially. We have buckets set up in the Narthex to collect your items plus a list of all cleaning supplies needed. Please continue to help UMCOR with supplies and funds.
Marriage Enrichment Group
The Marriage Enrichment Group will meet on Wednesday, November 8th from 5:30pm-6:45pm. A light dinner will be served. We will spend time with our partner sharing our desired plan for the holidays and and expectations. Although festive, holidays can also cause both small and large irritations as we seek to please everyone and create memories. Be proactive against holiday strife and discuss what you want out of this season that is quickly approaching. If you know of another couple that is interested in this group, invite them! This group is open to all, not just Crossroads UMC members. If you have any questions, please contact Leigh Martin at leighsmartin@gmail.com
