Paris 1900: City of Entertainment
Learning and Leading in French II
Project Overview and Assignment
The Belle Epoque in Paris is considered one of the most exciting and adventurous cultural times in history. You will have the opportunity to learn more about this era by preparing for our visit to the current exhibit "Paris 1900: City of Entertainment" at the Frist Museum. You lens will be focused on the time period primarily from 1900 to 1914. You will select an object in the current exhibit to research in the context of how it exemplifies one of the six areas of the exhibit: Paris: Showcase of the World, Paris: Capital of the Arts, Art Noveau, the Parisian Woman, Traversing Paris, and Paris by Night. Many of your objects will touch on several different areas within these categories--not unlike the members of this society. For example, Sarah Bernhardt ruled the Paris theatre scene. However, she was also an accomplished sculptor and acted in films. She also was the subject of many pieces of art created by other artists.
You will each take turns being the tour guide or docent and imparting your knowledge about the object you researched. In addition, you will be listening to other class mates when they present on their objects. At the end of the exhibit, we will reflect on what we have learned and make new connections with this information. In order to successfully make these connections, it's important that each member (guide) thoroughly research their object which will help us to make these critical links. Don't skimp on details--especially the interesting ones! We want our museum tour to be entertaining as well as informative.
You will find a link on this page to Mackinvia. Please use the authoritative resources found in the Group called "Paris 1900" to research your project first. If you feel that you need to include other resources, please consult Ms. Hall or Mrs. Zeillemann. Students will also be expected to cite all of their resources using M.L.A. 8 style including the object that you're researching.
