Mariner Memo
June 8, 2018
The year is coming to a close and this will be our final Mariner Memo of the school year. Next week we will be focused on students completing their exams and classes and setting our sights on the 2018-2019 school year. I would like to thank the staff, students, and community for a great first year at MCMS. It is with great pride that I call myself the principal of this school and that pride is derived from the wonderful people that make this place special. Thanks again for welcoming me into this building, you rock! I wish everyone a very happy, calm, relaxing, and fun summer vacation and hope that everyone is able to come back in the Fall refreshed and ready to jump back into the learning.
As we close out this school year we had some fun events take place for our students this week. On Monday, our 8th grade students visited SC4 and learned about some college programming available in their backyard. This was a good opportunity for students to hear about what options are available for their futures. Thanks to the LeMere Scholarship, Marine City High School graduates are eligible to have their SC4 tuition paid for! Tuesday and Wednesday nights we were treated to end-of-the-year concerts from the bands and choirs. On Thursday we had our annual staff vs. 8th grade boys basketball game followed by our Moving Up Assembly. Check out the pictures from the game below. Friday was a final send off for our 8th graders with a trip to Cedar Point.
With the transition into summer quickly approaching it is a great time to lay out our schedule:
Next Week:
Monday is a full day of school
Tuesday - Thursday are half days; 7:30 - 10:52. Breakfast will be served, but lunch will not on these days.
- Tuesday students will take their 1st and 2nd hour exams
- Wednesday students will take their 3rd and 4th hour exams
- Thursday students will take their 5th and 6th hour exams
Summer Schedule:
The regular building hours will change over the summer. The building will be open from 6:30 am - 2:30 pm each day.
Summer School will run July 30 - August 17th, 8:30 am - 11:30 am
The ECSD Summer Feeding Program will run out of the MCMS Cafeteria July 30th - August 23rd from 11:15 am - 12:15 pm. This program provides a free lunch to all school-aged children.
Thanks again for a wonderful school year. I appreciate all of the effort that you put in at home reinforcing the lessons that we are delivering here at school. I wish you the very best of summers and look forward to seeing your sons and daughters in the Fall.
-Mr. Ming
The 8th grade class took a trip to St. Clair County Community College to see what college offerings are available. It's never too early to start planning for college!
• PTO is hosting a Yankee Candle Fundraiser that will be running through July 11th. The school will earn 40% on every item sold. Visit our MCMS school website for online information. Items will ship directly to buyer. Thank you for your continued support!
