Duke Ellington was a jazz musician,born in Washington D.C. He can also be recognized as a bandleader, composer, and recording artist. He called his tunes "American Music". Some of his awards were the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1966, the Presidential Metal of Freedom in 1969, and the Legion of Honor by France in 1973. He created over 3,000 songs.
