Parker Family Update

January 29, 2022

Hello Parker Families,

I hope you are doing well and that 2022 is off to a great start! We had quite a storm and it's certainly part of the deal when living in New England. I will share the same advice that I give to the staff; "I hope you find the balance between shoveling and making snow angels!" We have 2 annual events coming up as we approach our February break. The next few weeks will be busy and productive as we move through the third term. There is no doubt that our students and staff are working incredibly hard this year, and the time off is well deserved. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this update and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas.

See you again soon,

Stay well,

15th Annual Parker "SouperBowl" - February 1st - 11th

We will be running our 15th annual food collection between February 1st and February 11th. All items collected will be donated to the Chelmsford Food Pantry (formerly known as the Chelmsford Community Exchange). Our donations provide much-needed support to the pantry following the holiday rush. Each year, the great volunteers working share that our donations are timely and help to replenish their stock.

We typically have some friendly competitions within the school to help boost participation. However, it is important that we all keep the focus where it belongs; coming together as a school community to help our friends and neighbors in need.

Thank you in advance for your support!

P.R.I.D.E. Week '22 - February 14th - 18th

PRIDE Week at Parker is a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate as a school community while reinforcing our core values of P.R.I.D.E. Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, Empathy.

Each day of the week focuses on a different letter in the acronym. Students will enjoy music in the lobby and cafe along with daily slideshows reinforcing the theme of the day. Our PRIDE Reps will visit of 5th and 6th grade classrooms to facilitate discussions with our younger students.

PRIDE Week 2020 will culminate with 2 "PRIDE Rallies" where students and staff will compete in various games while promoting our positive school climate and sportsmanship. Students will be able to sign up to participate and players will be randomly chosen prior to the events.

Cafeteria Expectations & Reminders

Early this coming week, Mr, Souza and Mr. LaRosa will be addressing students during their lunch period(s). The purpose is to review/remind students of our behavior expectations during their lunch/recess times. The colder temps and winter weather keeps more students inside, and this is the right time to pause, reflect, and check in with the students.

Here is a look at the slide we will be sharing with your children based on our observations:

Parker Cafe Expectations

  • Stay in your seat (no roaming, do not leave cafe without permission, no cell phones)
  • Use proper manners (no throwing things, playing with food, etc)
  • Follow volume expectations (no yelling, use "indoor" voice)
  • Dispose of items properly (cafe barrel is not a basketball net)
  • Keep area clean (before leaving check to make sure there is no trash/food on the floor and table is clean)
  • Listen to the adult’s instructions
Recess Expectations
  • Outside: If you are going outside please dress properly; Stay off snow and ice, listen to the adults. No cell phones.
  • Inside: Stay in your seat (no roaming, no cell phones)

Parker's Got Talent!

PGT is back! Thanks to the dedication and support of 7th grade teachers Ms. Jean and Dr. Noble, we will be running PGT again after a year off due to COVID. This wonderful event will be held on Friday, April 8th at the McCarthy Auditorium, beginning at 7PM. As the event gets closer, we will be seeking some help from our Parker families...stay tuned!

Audition Info:

  • 8th grade students are invited to audition for emcee on Monday, February 28th after school (Emcee is only open to 8th grade students).

Winter Reminders

  1. We will continue to send students outside for recess as often as possible. Please be sure that your child(ren) are coming to school prepared to go outside for approximately 15 minutes each day.
  2. Our Lost & Found is growing again! Please ask your child(ren) to stop outside the cafeteria and take a look!
  3. Massachusetts has a No Idling Law outside of public buildings, including schools. No vehicle is permitted to idle for more than 5 minutes. Thank you for your understanding.

COVID Absences - Student Work Expectations

The health and well-being of our students is our top priority. We understand that our students may not feel well enough to focus on school work while they are absent. Students are able to make up missed work when they return to school, whether the absences are COVID related or not. We encourage teachers to use their discretion and work with students to determine what work needs to be completed, and to develop a reasonable timeline.

In many cases, students are required to be out of school due to being considered a close-contact and do not have any related health issues. Please encourage your child(ren) to check in regularly for assignments and to complete work when they are able. Again, this only applies for students who are home and feel well enough to complete assignments and dedicate time to their school work.

All students are able to make up work when they return, however, those who are well enough should work to keep up while they are out. This will make transitioning back into the classroom much easier and will help our students continue to grow and develop in a positive manner.

Our teachers work hard to keep their Google Classroom sites current and/or post work for students to complete when they are absent for several days. Together, we can navigate through these challenging times and ensure that all students are receiving the high-quality education that they deserve.

"Paper" Online Tutoring Support

The district has partnered with "Paper," a 24/7 online tutoring program that is free for all CPS students! This service is staffed with trained, academic experts who will be available anytime to help our students succeed. Students can simply log into Clever on their Chromebook and click the Paper icon for support.

I encourage you and your child to take advantage of this great opportunity!
