Gators of the Week: Ms. Johansson wins Fund for Teachers Grant

Get smart: Congratulations! Fund for Teachers is pleased to recognize Ms. Johansson as a 2016 Fellow and awarded her $3915.00 to Participate in the Division of International Special Education and Services Round Table Discussions in Managua, Nicaragua, to learn about advocacy, research and networking for students with disabilities and afterwards join related clinical field work and a service project to learn how other cultures are making the change to person first vocabulary.

From thousands of applications from across the country, her proposal stood out as one that will bring relevant knowledge and skills back to your students.

She now joins a peer group of nearly 7,000 other preK-12 educators who refused to settle for traditional professional development or the status quo in their classroom. After navigating the globe conducting field research, attending seminars, volunteering with community organizations or observing best practices, the Fellows inspire school communities with authentic learning.

Long Beach High School, NY Sends Supplies to RBHS

Nike Work Based Learning Center Serves RBHS and SC Flood Victims

The name of the school is the Nike Work-Based Learning Center, an alternative high school setting within the Long Beach Public School District on Long Island. It will be three years ago this coming Thursday when the town of Long Beach was decimated by Hurricane Sandy. Recently, a fried to our Counselor Dr. Vacchio, had kept an eye on my social media presence and on the news, and he had reached out to RB to see how the Nike Center could help with our local flood relief efforts.

The school's administrator Mr. Howard Fuchs, classmate and teammate to Dr. Vacchio, set a goal twofold: for Nike WBL Center to establish and maintain a lasting relationship with RBHS and to help with fundraising and donation efforts in our area. Pictures below show the fruits of this labor. SC and RBHS is eternally indebted to the service of the students at this high school and look forward to a long term relationship.
