Bearcat Brief

April 7, 2017

Notes from Niki

Thank you for all of the hard work that you did for the Kids First initiative. My softball coach always said, "A win is a win. It doesn't matter if it was pretty or not." We will take this win. The closeness of the vote just gives is an imperative to continue working in a transparent way and inviting people into our schools to show them all of the good work we are doing.

I have begun making a list of all the things that are happening between MAP testing and the end of the year, and it's a little nutty. Time will FLY once we get back from Easter break- get rested up while you have the chance, it will be over before we know it. We need to put some serious thought into what NWEA testing is going to look like in the midst of all of that. It is important that we get that final data point and see what students hit their growth targets. It will also be interesting to compare the MAP data with NWEA.

Don't forget we are having a faculty meeting Tuesday the 11. Other important events are listed below.

MAP Spirit Week Continues

Monday- Black Out Distractions- wear black

Tuesday- Stay Comfy During the Test- wear comfy clothes (no pajamas please)

Wednesday- Make Your School Proud!- wear Bearcat Attire

Professional Reading/ Resources:

The Middle School got Blue and White Night grants to start a Makerspace and get some flexible seating for a Learning Lab. Please watch/read these for more info and then let your imagination fly. We will be sending a survey soon about what you would like to see in the Makerspace and what kinds of projects you could see students making in there for your class. The "Classroom Eye Candy" article may scare some of you (me a little too), but that's why we can have a separate space that's a learning lounge for when it is appropriate, but still keep the traditional classroom setup for other times. Maybe eventually we'll be ready for more flexible seating on a day to day basis, but we'll cross that bridge ...
