News from this week
Dear Parents,
It was nice to get back to a regular schedule this week with no Milestones testing. I know the students were relieved to be done. However, some of their relief came out as misbehavior for some students. Please remind your students to continue working hard, listen to their teachers, control their talking, and most importantly, be respectful of other students and their teachers. If they can do this until the last day of school, we will have a great ending to the school year!
We had an in-house field trip with High Touch High Tech. It was an interactive science program that allowed students to explore with lenses, flashlights, lasers, and diffraction glasses to explore reflection and refraction of light. The students had a great time and reviewed all of the light concepts required in 4th grade.
This week, we took a Math test on Area & Perimeter and learned about the Reconstruction of the South after the Civil War. Our test on Reconstruction will be next Wednesday and we will take a cumulative grade in Math to test all of the topics we learned this year. We will also have Word Study test on all of our roots on Tuesday, May 1st. Please make sure to use the Quizlets on my website to help your child study.
Students did a great job with their book clubs this semester and they will be doing a Book Club project to end it all. They will have a writing section and a technology section to the project, but they get to choose what they want to do from a choice board. I would like to encourage students to continue working on Education Galaxy for all subjects, including Science and SS. This is a great way to review content area taught in the beginning of the year which will be very useful for when they take the District Assessments in 2 weeks. These assessments count for 5% of their grade and review the whole year. Education Galaxy is aligned to our state standards in every area, so it is a very helpful review.
Field Day T-shirt order forms are due on Monday April 30th.
If you have not returned Spring pictures and do not want to buy them, please make sure to return them as soon as possible.
I will have my last session of Morning Math help next Tuesday, 5/1 at 7:15. We will review for our cumulative grade that is next week.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Important Information
Parents,
We have an exciting school wide initiative for the 2018-2019 school year! Gwin Oaks Elementary School will be a PBIS School.
What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions Support) is a framework that will give Gwin Oaks Elementary School unified school expectations. Similar to the Gwin Oaks Elementary School Handbook, these rules will define our expectations for behavior in our school. You will see these expectations posted throughout the school and your child will be learning them during his or her first days at school. Our unified school expectations, found in every classroom and non-classroom setting in the school, are as follows:
Be Ready
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
As part of our PBIS process, teachers and other staff members use the discipline data we accumulate to develop evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions. We will have incentives to encourage students to adopt the expectations in a positive manner. We look forward to sharing more with you and your student for the
2018-2019 school year.
Signed by the PBIS Committee
