I just wanted to send out a reminder to everyone that here have been several viruses running throughout the school these past few weeks and I want everyone to remain healthy.
As always it is best to keep your children home if they are not feeling well to avoid passing germs to others. I do realize that this is not always feasible, so if you send your child to school with a cold, please remind them to try to keep their germs to themselves. They should cover their sneezes and coughs, wash their hands often, especially after coughing, sneezing or blowing their noses, and avoid touching others. If you go to the doctor and your child is diagnosed with an illness, please send an email to your teacher and me (the nurse) to keep us informed. We can have the classrooms sanitized if needed to avoid the spread of anything.
Your doctor can give you a note that will excuse your child's missed days. This note should also contain the date when the student can return to school and if there are any limitations. Fevers of 100.0 and higher need to remain at home until they are fever free for at least 24 hours. They may return to school when they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of any kind of medication.
I appreciate the support and cooperation from every parent in the help to prevent the spread of illness within our school. Our goal is to have every student healthy and ready to learn in class.

February Art News
Wow!!! There are many creative events and projects happening right now for our Bobcats.
Let’s start out by congratulating our four 5th grade students who won top awards at the Pinellas County Tax Collectors TAG ART SHOW at Largo High School. Pinellas County Schools Superintendent, Mr. Hendrick personally handed out the awards to our amazing artists. We LOVE that he is such a huge supporter of the arts.
~Thank you also to everyone who voted for my teacher tag on the tax collector’s website. We took second place overall. The competition was tight with only a 5 point difference between 1st and 2nd place. Next time you find yourself at the DMV, lighten the mood by admiring all of our winning tags that will be on display for the next year and thank them for providing such an amazing fund raiser for Pinellas County Art Departments.
Congratulations to our Tag Art Winners:
1. Hadley Dorsett
2. Avri Goodlet
3. Samantha Dion
4. Daniel Nguyen
ATTENTION 5th GRADE STUDENTS:
Just a reminder that your MANDATORY sculpture to the theme: “Art in Motion” is due no later than Friday, February 17th. We have been discussing this in class for a month now. Refer to the directions sheet you were given or email me at: livingstons@pcsb.org with any questions. You may bring your sculpture in early with your name, art code and title if you already have it completed.
Have your kids informed you of the exciting and incredibly beautiful school-wide tile mosaic project we are wrapping up? Every student in K-5 helped us design, make, glaze and cut over 5000 hand-made ceramic tiles for our Florida Wetlands mosaic installed on the steps of our outdoor amphitheater. Through referendum grant funding and the generosity of Mr. Hodges and our amazing PTA, we enlisted the masterminds of Heather Richardson and Jackie Malone from Safety Harbor Art and Music Center to guide us through this process. After nearly a year of planning, creating and install, we have a gorgeous permanent work to commemorate BCS’s 25th anniversary. Next time you are on campus, swing by and admire our masterpiece. Several of my Art Club kids informed me that we now need to “mosaic the world”
Finally I would like send out a huge thank you to all the families who delivered sweet cards and gifts to me over the holidays. You should have received a personalized thank you note but I realize sometimes those don’t always make it home.
Please know your generosity is never overlooked.

The Media Center is a place where kids learn to enjoy reading. Our Media Center is open to all students, staff, and parents who wish to check out books or use any of our many resources. When a student chooses the books that interest them, they are more interested in reading. Remind your child to choose a "just right book", a book when they read, they make less than five mistakes per page. Please take time to share their books with them. By sitting together and looking at the pictures, reading the captions and talking about the story, you are building memories and modeling good reading habits that will last your child a lifetime. If you would like to view our inventory of books, please go to http://destiny.pcsb.org and select Brooker Creek Elementary. This will give you a direct link to all the books that we have in our collection available for checkout.
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.

PE NEWS
Hey Bobcats! We've had a great start to 2023! We were lucky enough to have the Tampa Bay Lightning Street Hockey Team come out and work with our older students. They provided each student (present that day) in grades 3, 4, and 5 with a hockey stick and ball. They also went through some drills and games with the students, all led by a former Tampa Bay Lightning Stanley Cup winning player! We have recently been notified that they plan to come out again to work with the older students and put on another clinic. This is a great honor as only 30 schools within 5 counties were chosen for this.
We are going to get into some different teaching units in the coming weeks, including track and field and backyard games. We appreciate all the support we've been given by the school community, allowing us to bring in events like the Lightning for the students! We hope everyone has a great February!
