March is Women's History Month. In March, we commemorate and encourage the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. Please join FMS in celebrating Women's History Month.

PSSAs and Keystones begin April 25th

PSSAs and Keystones begin on April 25th and will run according to the schedule below. In the coming weeks, you will receive information via The Fugett Flash, as well as through School Messenger from Dr. Mitchell.


This is an important time for our students, faculty and staff. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we navigate the testing requirements of the state of Pennsylvania.


FMS TESTING SCHEDULE:


APRIL 25, 26, 27: English/Language Arts PSSA (Grades 6, 7, 8)

MAY 2, 3: Mathematics PSSA (Grades 6, 7, 8)

MAY 4, 5: Science PSSA (Grade 8 ONLY)

MAY 17, 18: Algebra Keystone (Algebra Students ONLY)

Extra! Extra! Newsies Jr. is a Hit!

Congratulations to the Newsies! This past weekend, the talented cast and crew of over 170 members put on three amazing performances. We are so proud of their courage and tenacity through all of the performances! Our students have determination, character and integrity appreciated and inspiring.


Thank you to our families and loved ones, for your support and encouragement of our students, teachers and administrators. The show was absolutely amazing, and your dedication, hard work, and energy are priceless.


Finally, thank you to Mr. Matt Hill, Ms. Kaylin Richards, and Mr. Dave Miller for their countless hours, patience, and support of the the Drama Club members. Your time and positivity are valued and appreciated.

CHEERLEADER/MASCOT TRY-OUTS

Chester County Football Camp

Please join the West Chester East Football program for a week of football, friendships and fun at the Chester Country Football Camp. The camp will be held the week of June 19-23rd on the campus of Rustin High School. Current W.C. East players and coaches will be on hand to promote self-confidence, good sportsmanship and individual/group instruction on the offensive and defensive schemes and fundamentals of football. Campers will be able to get a feel for what it takes to play a number of those positions.

District 1 Basketball Clinic

Learn skills from some of the best in District One! Instructors will include coaches from local high schools as well as Varsity Girls Basketball players from Rustin, WC East, Penncrest, Ridley, and Springford. Funds raised will be used towards helping the District One 11th Grade Girls team travel to a tournament in Florida.

Hello from the Fugett PTO!

Thank you for all of the emails regarding our open committee positions! We still have one position open for the chair of the Beautification Committee. We already have a few volunteers for this committee but need one or two volunteers to lead it. The Exec board will be voting in the new committee heads during the April Exec board meeting.

Beautification Committee (Available Now): We are looking for volunteers to lead and join our newly created beautification committee. This committee will be responsible for maintaining the front planters, the courtyard garden box, and a bulletin board in the cafeteria as well as some special projects throughout the school year.


Donations for West Chester Food Cupboard


The PTO is collecting donations to support the WC Food Cupboard. Please consider purchasing items in need and having your student place the donation in the blue bin marked "Food Cupboard", located at the cafeteria entrance. items most needed are: diapers, feminine products, cereal, toothpaste, deodorant, canned meat and fish, and canned fruit. Any items that you can spare are always gratefully accepted. We will continue this much needed service throughout the year. Thank you for your generosity and support!

Exploring Day

Exploration Day is an all-day, hands-on career exploration event for students in grades 6-10. Exploration Day is hosted by the CCIU, the CCEDC, the Boy Scouts, and CCRES. It will be held on April 21st which is an in-service day for your school district.


Any family can sign up for $60/student and choose one of three pathways. Drop off and pick up is in Exton, but participants are bussed to two employer sites for interactive activities, with a stop in-between at CCIU for lunch, more activities, and a tour of industry-related classes at TCHS.

EXPLORING DAY

April 16th - Virtual Mentoring and Tutoring Initiative

Parents and Community Members, we have heard your call for action. You have said stop talking and act, so let’s go!


Please join the WCASD Team and Dr. Una Martin, Interim Director of Equity, for an informational meeting on April 16 from 2:30PM to 4:30PM at Peirce Middle School-located at 314 Burke Rd, West Chester, PA 19380.


The purpose of this meeting is to mobilize parents and community members to strategize the launch for a Zoom mentoring and tutoring initiative for K-12 students. Come prepared to participate in the discussions and plans to create action steps for the implementation in the fall of 2023.

Upcoming Events from West Chester Communities that Care

West Chester Communities That Care is excited to let area families know of the exciting opportunities coming up in March.


On Saturdays in March, we are hosting a four-week THRIVE Project where teens in grades 7-12 will work alongside area design, marketing and communications professionals to craft a youth-driven professionally designed campaign to address underage alcohol use. Culture shaping products including posters for school hallways and a social media campaign are expected outcomes, along with real world skill development in youth and increased awareness of facts and myths surrounding alcohol use.
