Hubbard & Cravens Coffee and Tea

February 2016 Newsletter

Giving back to the community that has given us so much

This year, as part of celebrating our 25th anniversary, we are working in partnership with local charities to volunteer and raise funds for their programs. In the months of February and March, we will be working with Little Red Door Cancer Agency( Established in 1945, Little Red Door is the oldest, local cancer resource in central Indiana. Every day, they strive to make the most of life, and the least of cancer, helping over 7,500 Hoosiers each year. By reducing the physical, emotional, and financial burdens of cancer for the working poor and unemployed Hoosiers, they enable patients to understand, detect, and navigate cancer, while opening the door to hope. They provide countless free services from breast and prostate cancer screenings, to transportation to and from treatments, to wigs and medical supplies. Throughout February and March, we will have a featured, limited crop coffee available at a special price, and $2 of every bag sold will be donated to Little Red Door, as well as 100% of the proceeds generated from the purchase of our recycled burlap bags that our coffees arrive from origin in. Lastly, we will be volunteering to help support them at the Shamrock 5K Run on Saturday, March 12th, at 2p.m. , in downtown Indianapolis. In fact, if you are interested in running the race, you can go to this link to signup and get $5 off using the promo code "LRD":

Caffeine Trail debuts in Carmel for 2016

Carmel is widely respected and known as a cultural and arts hub, and now the city is putting an emphasis on their coffee connection as well. This year marks the launch of the Carmel Caffeine Trail ( As a kickoff to get the word out there about the trail, the city asked Hubbard & Cravens, as we are the only stop on the trail that roasts their own coffee, if we could do some coffee cupping demonstrations to help educate the general public on how the perfect coffee is tested for perfection. Our Corporate Trainer/Manager of the Broad Ripple shop, Kyle Kmetz performed the cuppings, as well as stopped by the set of Indy Style to promote the event live on the air to the morning viewers.

Ocean Prime opens new location in Boston

As some may be aware, Hubbard & Cravens supplies great coffee to more than just our own locations. We have relationships with upscale restaurants, boutique hotels, and country clubs throughout the US. One of the restaurant chains we proudly provide to, Ocean Prime, just recently celebrated the opening of a brand new location in Boston! Ocean Prime is a modern American restaurant and lounge from renowned restaurateur Cameron Mitchell. There are currently 12 locations from coast to coast, with the original location, Mitchell’s Ocean Club, in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Ocean Prime delivers an extraordinary experience to guests: stunning settings and a vibrant energy, an impressive menu of seafood and prime cuts of steak, signature cocktails, a Wine Spectator-honored wine list and truly genuine hospitality. Each location is unique and inspired by the energy of the city where it’s located. Dramatically designed, the restaurants are social, fun, and glamorous. Every element has been carefully curated with attention to every detail. They specialize in incredible seafood and prime steaks, but Ocean Prime is much more than just a steakhouse or a seafood restaurant. Ocean Prime is an extraordinary dining destination. The menu features classic dishes crafted with a modern sensibility and an appreciation for ingredients. With lighter fare, like shellfish cobb salad and sushi, as well as more indulgent items like the smoking shellfish tower, juicy steaks and decadent desserts, there’s something for every occasion. Hubbard & Cravens provides our Ethiopian Yrgacheffe served via French press tableside, as well as a variety from our extensive tea selection, including our Citron Green and Earl Grey De La Crème. And for our local crowd here in Indianapolis, you don't need to take a road trip to Boston to experience all that Ocean Prime has to offer, you can visit them at their Keystone at the Crossing location!

Newest Coffee Arrivals in shops this month!

The newest selection includes Burundi Burambi and Costa Rica Alto Encino. The Burundi Burambi is fully-washed and sun-dried on patio beds, bringing out a winey flavor of peach and honey. The Costa Rica Alto Encino Micro Lot brings out hints of sweet cherry and caramel with a dry finish in part from its wet processing and patio sun drying. Rick and Marcie Hubbard have visited the Jiminez Family farm, established more than 30 years ago and our investment of a direct trade relationship with owner Maureen, has already resulted in higher quality crops produced in this second year of our relationship.

Burlap for Benefit

Stop into the 49th&Penn or Broad Ripple shops today to pick up an unlimited supply of the burlap bags that green coffee arrives to our warehouse from origin in. There is no "charge" for the bags, but donations are appreciated, as 100% of all proceeds raised are donated to our featured charities! What can you do with the sacks? We have some tips for you! Used burlap coffee bags are approximately 28" x 40", contain random prints and may have lingering residue or odors associated from the transport and storage of green coffee beans. These used burlap bags are bio-degradable and environmentally friendly, as well as offer that rich wholesome coffee scent. They have multiple uses such as décor or craft projects, storage, an outdoor table cloth, packing protection, or even as a garden weed barrier. Lets not forget they are the ultimate bags to use for those summer sack races!

Coffee for a Cause

We are excited and proud to have imported Jantung, a rare crop shipped to us from the famed Wahana Estate in Sumatra. The Jantung couples the wet hulled process with the tangy fruit acidity common to the typica variety, creating a profile that is simultaneously familiar and unique. The best part is, for every bag of this amazing coffee sold, we are donating $2 to Little Red Door! There will be bags available at the shops, right at the registers, flushed with nitrogen to ensure freshness, and specially priced at $19.95. Available only for a limited time!
