Our Mission: Arbor Springs Committed to Student Success.

Welcome, February! We are so excited to report that we received a 5 Star Rating for our School Climate from the state. This score is derived from a combination of attendance data, discipline data, and survey data. Thank you for making sure students are in school, on time, ready to learn EVERY day that they can be, and thank you for your support in recognizing our positive school climate!
Here are a few reminders about events occurring this month:

We have been busy working on some continued education for our staff at school! We have had recent visits by our math curriculum specialist, Lynne Skinner, as well as our English/language arts specialist, Paula Baker. These county reps gave us some excellent ideas for fine-tuning our instruction to meet student needs.
We are planning an upcoming parent night to discuss curriculum and testing. We will have activities for the students so that parents can have every opportunity to attend. Please look for more information soon.

Swimming in a School of Character:
February is Black History Month! Black History Month celebrates the contributions made by African Americans and people of African descent around the world. Remember to recognize and honor the various African Americans that have made a significant impact in history throughout the years.
National School Counseling Week 2017, "School Counseling: Helping Students Realize Their Potential," will be celebrated from Feb. 6-10, 2017, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.
Swimming in a School of Character:
This month’s character word is courage. Courage is to meet a challenge without giving into fear. Having courage means that children will be brave as they meet new experiences, difficult situations, and/or dangerous encounters. Also, courage may involve being firm because of strong moral convictions. In either case, there may be feelings of fear, anxiety, or apprehension. Below are some tips to help help teach courage:
Help them see their own courage.
Make a family practice of connecting and contributing.
Self-reflect in the presence of your children.
Model doing what is right for you, even when it isn’t popular with your child.

The school year is passing by quickly. Thank you all so much for being such supportive parents. Even though we have had the flu and other illnesses, we haven’t had a large amount of students out at one time. Thank you for keeping your children home when they needed to be home. Please continue to encourage and enforce hand washing!! That is our best line of defense against illness. Flu season is still in full swing and will be until about the time we get out for winter break.
Fifth grade parents: Are you ready for middle school?? ☺ It is just around the corner. During the month of February, if your child needs immunization for middle school, you will receive a letter. Middle school is very strict in its requirement that all students be up to date on their immunizations.
We will be having a bake sale in February. February is always a very popular bake sale month with lots of homemade goodies. Please make sure all homemade goodies are labeled. If your child has food allergies please remember to send them in a special treat for that day.
Also, our lost and found is overflowing. We always go through the stack and look for names and we return them to their rightful owner. If you are missing an item, please come look through our LARGE stack of coats and most important put your child’s name in them so we can return them.
If you ever have questions please don’t hesitate to call. Have a Happy Valentines!!! Mrs. Rebecca, School NurseUpcoming Events
