The Buzz at Westbrook School
October 15, 2021
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
It has been a busy four-day week at Westbrook School. We started our weekly Shield testing. The class schedule can be found here Shield Testing Schedule. Students are encouraged to refrain from eating and drinking for one hour before the test. I have included a picture of the tube on the spreadsheet to see how the sample is collected. Students have been taking on average about 10-15 minutes to fill a tube. Please practice producing saliva at home with your child before next week. You have the option of opting your child out of future testing by emailing DCrandall@d57.org. Please provide your child's name and classroom teacher in the email if you plan to opt-out.
Halloween is quickly approaching! The Halloween party schedule and parade schedule are below. Families are invited to attend the outdoor parade (weather permitting) on Friday, October 29th, at their child’s assigned time. We will walk out of door #1 and parade around the school. Please spread out so that all families can see their child walk by.
Students are invited to come to school in costume. It is important to ensure students are in comfortable costumes so they can sit in the classroom. Please help your child make safe and respectful decisions about their costumes. Students may wear an appropriate mask in the parade, but not during school. Make-up, weapons, fake blood, or inappropriate dress are not allowed. All costume accessories will be left in the classroom for recess and lunch. Students may not bring food or candy to share.

Don't forget - you can bring your decorated "book character pumpkin" to the LRC beginning October 18th!
To celebrate the season, families are invited to talk about some of their favorite book characters and create a "pumpkin" together to display on top of the LRC bookshelves along with a picture of the book in which they star. Some examples are posted below.
**Please do not use real pumpkins or food**
Join us in this celebration of books and the season!
