Fall Picture Day - Thursday, 9/20

The photographer from Strawbridge Studios will be here on Thursday to take fall individual pictures. Order forms were sent home this week. If you don't have an order form, let the office know, and we will send one home.

Online orders are also accepted at www.strawbridge.net. Our online ordering code is 111963.

The photographer is using “green screen” technology, so please avoid wearing a green shirt!

VISION and HEARING SCREENINGS

Sunflower Elementary will be conducting a school wide screening on Monday, September 17, 2018. Hearing will be checked for 1st and 3rd graders. Vision will be checked for 2nd and 4th graders. PK and Kindergarten students will have both hearing and vision screened at a different date/time-to be determined. Periodic hearing and vision screenings are required by the state of Kansas for school districts. You will be only be notified of results if your child’s screening warrants follow up or referral. If you prefer your child opt out of screening, please send a signed written note to school prior to this date. Please feel free to contact Nurse Haney with any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Sunflower Elementary Food Drive

Mrs. Gabriel, Sunflower Student Council sponsor, wanted to let Sunflower families know that our normally scheduled food drive in the fall will now be held during the spring semester. There are quite a few of our district schools who donate during the fall semester so the multi-service center is stocked up for the holiday season. However after the holidays, donations dwindle, so we're saving our food drive to fill up their shelves in the spring! Look for more information to come in the New Year!

Sunflower Site Council Meetings 2018-2019

The Sunflower Site Council will be meeting at 6 pm in the library on the following dates: 9/11/18, 11/13/18, 2/5/19, 4/9/19.

All meetings are open to the public.

Kansas schools are required to establish site councils composed of the principal, teachers and other school personnel, parents,

business representatives, and other community groups.

Site councils have a responsibility to provide advice and counsel in the following areas: evaluating district and school performance goals and objectives,

determining methods to meet those goals and objectives,

and other areas as requested by the board of education.

Remember, the work of the site council is advisory only;

it makes recommendations, not decisions.

Sunflower PTO

Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has been an integral part of Sunflower Elementary for many years. Through fundraisers and fun events, they are able to provide funds to teachers, classrooms, and the school.

We invite everyone to join the Sunflower PTO Facebook page. By searching "Gardner Sunflower PTO" under Pages, you will be able to join the group and receive updated PTO information.
