Science: Happy 2021 everyone! I am so excited to welcome you back from winter break for our last few weeks of Term 2 and beginning of Term 3! In Science, we continue to learn about Assistive Technology (prosthetic limbs, canes, etc) in this very Engineering-focused unit. We are currently piloting some new curriculum for Science and it has been great seeing how engaged our 7th graders have been with this material. We are also continuing our Experiment Thursday tradition! Before break we did several experiments that were safe to try at home including homemade ice-cream in ziploc baggies. Hopefully your students offered to make some ice cream for you over break! Now that break is over, we are hoping to return to some of our more “explosive” experiments. Hope to see you all in the spring and I hope you are staying safe and healthy. Warm wishes for you and your family! ~ Ms. Kara Purviance
ELA: Hello Lancer families! I hope you all had a relaxing break and are excited for the new year! As we wrap up Term 2 in the next few weeks, students will be taking what they learned before winter break and using those skills to help them write an Argumentative Essay on a topic of their choice. This week is all about research, next week they will be writing their rough draft, and their final draft will be due on Wednesday January 20th by midnight. If your student needs any help or you have any questions, please send me an email or stop by my Lancer Lives. I am always happy to help! :) --- Mrs. Anderson
ELA: Happy New Year! We have finished our unit on myths. For the next three weeks we will write an argumentative essay. Students will be allowed to choose their topic, however topics will need to be approved. The topics should be an issue or injustice they feel strongly about. We will have a class topic and essay that will demonstrate the expectations and model what they will need to do. Participation is important during the modeling process. After we are finished arguing we will move on to Unit 3 which focuses on choices and consequences. We will read the House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamiltion. These books will be available for 3rd quarter pick up.
Geography: Hallo and Welcome to 2021! It is hard to believe the previous year was the exact number of days as any other calendar year, but felt like it was the LONGEST year ever! As we move into the New Year we have a lot of ground (continents) to cover, including South America, Africa and Europe! The next two weeks will see us continue our exploration of North America and Central America, with an emphasis on climate zones, challenges facing those citizens, and what is like to actually live and work in those regions of the world. As you break out those new calendars to go on your wall, or in your devices, please mark down Thursday, MAY 6 for our 2nd annual Cultural Fair! Whether the event will be virtual or in person we will discover, however it will be a fantastic event in either case! Keep working hard to finish out TERM 2 strong! Email if you need anything, Danke schon! - Mr. Scherzer
Math: Hello Everyone! We will be finishing Chapter 3 - Expressions to wrap up Term 2. We will continue to apply the concepts from our first two chapters, introduce variables, explore identifying and combining like terms, and learn the distributive property. Remember any time you need help with assignments to e-mail or check in during Lancer Live times. -Mr. Pickett and Ms. Breidenstein
Advanced Math: Hi Everyone! We will be finishing Chapter B to wrap up Term 2. We will continue to explore Probability and students will get to practice experimental and theoretical probability through simulations. I am hoping to use a variety of ways for the students to actively participate and get into this topic. Remember any time you need help with assignments to e-mail or check in during daily Lancer Live times. -Ms. Breidenstein
SLA DLI: ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Bienvenidos a todos de regreso a las clases virtuales. Estamos casi al final del Término 2.
