Our Class Winter Party
I will not be at our Winter party this year. My husband and i will be flying out December 15th- 19th to Manhattan, New York. We have been asked to be a part of a wedding of one of his former students from J.J. Pearce High School.
I am sorry that i will be missing this special time but i know that my class will be in good hands. My sub for Thursday and Friday will be my sweet friend Cathey Hall. She will be taking very good care of everyone.

A note from Mrs. Abrams
We continued our Saga of the many characters of Gingerbread.
We had a lot of fun learning about:
The Gingerbread Bear
Gingerbread Friends
The STINKY cheese Man
And now.....Trudy the Gingerbread Girl has Run Away
I cant wait for you to read the stories your child has written.
…next week we will be reading a few more Gingerbread Stories and learn a bit about that Mystery man named Santa.
Here are some questions you can use to review what we learned at school
1. What was your favorite story?
2. Why did you like it?
3. What was your favorite part of the story?
4. Who were the characters in the stories?
5. How were the stories different?
6. How were the stories alike?
7. Which character is most like you? How? Why?
8. If you were a Gingerbread Person, how would you outsmart the Fox?
9. What was the repeating phrase used by each Gingerbread Character?
10 What characters did you create in your Trudy story?
As they are "think about our reading" they are learning to:
Visualize - create an image in their mind as they read.
Schema - everything you already know
Schema + new information = New Learning
Infer - use clues in the story to help them understand what's happening
Predict - take clues from the text and make a smart guess about what will happen in the story.
Connect - think about their experiences and what they know to make connections.
This has been the funnest week in our classroom, I can not wait to see what they come up with next.
When you DO good things...GOOD things happen, and as a Kindergarten teacher life doesn't get much better than this.

Wylie ISD 2017-18 Calendar Release
If you have not seen the updated calendar for next year, it is posted on the district website. There is a survey that you can give feedback regarding changes you would like to see.
For the most part, it is similar to this year's. Some changes that have occurred include:
- School will start August 21, the third Monday of August, opposed to the fourth Monday. The district applied for a waiver to do this.
- Christmas Break starts on a Thursday and ends on a Tuesday, making the break for staff 13 days, opposed to the typical 16 days.
- They added a teacher work day following Christmas Break.
- Spring Break is now aligned with Dallas County and Collin County community colleges. So it is now the 2nd week of March.
Keep those box Tops coming. we are in a competition to see which class can bring in the most
