Notes From Our Counselors

In October we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week.

Red Ribbon Week® (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started. This year’s theme is Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.

Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.

Visit to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. Also check out 50 Everyday Ways to Love Your Teen for tips on connecting with your teenager.

A Message From Our District Family School Liaison

Students will greatly benefit from effective communication between their parents and teachers. That being said, as you may already know, parent-teacher conferences are just around the corner and I encourage you to register and take some time to meet your students' teachers and discuss as a team how best to support your child(ren).

If you don't know how to sign up for parent-teacher conferences through our Meet the Teacher website, please join us today, October 7th, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at the Sunny Hill library to find out how to schedule your child's upcoming parent-teacher conferences. If you are unable to attend and would like further assistance please feel free to contact me at 847-842-3565.

Snowflake will take place on Wednesday, November 16th from 3:10 to 6:00 PM at Prairie. Registration will be open October 3rd - October 28th and will need to be completed through Revtrak or by using this link. The link will be live starting October 3rd.

Snowflake is a unique opportunity for middle school students to come together in an informal setting to teach valuable skills that develop healthy peer relationships, promote responsible decision-making and resist negative peer pressure. Sign your child up to experience a fun activity that will help them to gain a sense of belonging and a better understanding of one’s self and others all while having fun.
