LRMS: Week at a Glance
September 14- 18, 2015
Sayings from Skinner
Dear Radloff Raiders -- I hope you have had another fantastic weekend, and are gearing up for all the exciting fall events that are getting here quickly!! Football is underway in a fast and furious fashion; fall festivals are popping up in every open venue; pumpkins patches are getting ready to sprout -- and yet, there's still that hint of summer (okay, heat and humidity) that still lingers! Now is the time for us to help our kids realize we are in the midst of the fall semester -- and they really have to get in and get busy with their dedication to their school work -- they need to be READY to do the hard work of READING and REACHING toward the goals they want--both short-term and long-term. With Early Release Conferences almost here, it provides US with the opportunity to bring their parents into the conversations about interventions and/or enrichments so that each child can reach his/her potential. Please use your time over the coming days to REACH out to parents, to READ kids' attitudes about school and help them set goals, and to READY our community to strive toward greater academic achievement for the fast-approaching mid-terms and in anticipation of the semester's end and beyond! Have a fantastic week, my awesome Raiders!!!!!!!
News You Can Use
Read Carefully to Be "In the Know"
1) Kudos, Congratulations, and Other Matters of Good News:
Please let me know all that's going on -- -anyone have KUDOS or congratulations to share??? Just email them to Sarah to put in the "Week at a Glance"
From Sarah Farr: Kudos to Barbara Clark for single-handedly making 500 data notebooks for the 6th grade!
Congratulations to Shannon Green and her 7th and 8th grade students who were selected for Honor Chorus: Oriel Crammer, Lan Bui, Vy Vu, Claudia Rosell, Kelly Um, Tene Jones, Marjorie Licona-Rivera, Alannis Figueroa, Shamari Moore, Jurnie Thompson, Myli Zelaya, Nicolas Castro-Kuhn
2) CAPS FOR A CURE is September 25th!!! Wear $1 TO WEAR A HAT. Students and faculty alike are encouraged to participate!! All donations welcome! Hat wearers will purchase $1 stickers for the privilege to wear a hat for a day!! More details will be coming -- and if you have any questions, see Amy Winkeljohn.
3) Follow up on 4 1/2-week progress reports!
HR teachers: Make sure you check off that you receive a signed progress report from EACH student. Make phone calls or reach out via email if you are missing any. Maintain these signed progress reports as a form of documentation for all students. Start arranging Early Release conferences for those in academic troubles as well as opening Academic Contracts. This is the year we MUST intervene early and often if we will reach our goals as a school!!
4) College and Career Readiness Family Night -- A School-Wide Title 1 Event (9/16 -- at 6:00 p.m.)
ALL students (but particularly 8th grade and Academy students) should be encouraged to come with their parents to this event, which kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. Sessions will be held in the cafeteria, health room, and both gyms. Information will be shared about preparing for college, the Academies of Meadowcreek U, resources from SECME, local agencies (including the public library system) that have resources for parents and students, Gwinnett Tech, GA Tech, and a number of other organizations. The GCPS Discipline Office will be providing information on "cyber safety" for parents to help know more about how to keep kids safe in cyberspace! ALL faculty are invited and encouraged to attend as well!!
5) SAFE DRIVING Required!!!
Faculty -- please be aware of traffic patterns in our parking lots. For those of you who enter from the Bus Entrance and cut across in front of the school, please SLOW DOWN, and STOP as you cut in front of the circular drive. There soon will be a STOP sign in place, but we've had a couple of close calls/near misses -- and we don't want any "unplanned parent conference" because a faculty member crashes into a parent or visitor in the parking lot!!!
6) Passes for Morning Tutoring
Wednesday mornings are school-wide tutoring and do not require passes. Students should have passes for any tutoring on other mornings! It helps us know where students are supposed to be going!
7) Constitution Day/Week
Help all students understand the significance of this document and the many amazing aspects of the founding of our country -- we'll give special attention to "flag etiquette" and information throughout the week --- work within your teams to develop lessons and find "teachable moments" to help our students become more aware of our American Heritage and gain appreciation for the blessings we share as Americans.
8) Guests Coming to Radloff This Week!!
Please know we will have a ton of visitors from around our district in our building this week!! On Tuesday, September 15 (from 8 - 12) and on Thursday, September 17 (from 12 - 4), many district leaders will be coming to Radloff for a half-day training on PBL and matters of STEM innovation. If you see any of these folks who look "lost" or if you happen to pass by them, please greet and welcome them --- and help our students "put their best foot forward" to show how awesome they truly are!!!!
