PTO Positions
Dear Westview Community,
I have enjoyed serving as your PTO President for the past six years. At the end of the school year my youngest graduates! This means we are truly in need of volunteers to join the PTO in leadership positions. We currently have all positions open except President, Secretary and Treasurer. Please read through our descriptions of the various jobs we have available. If you’ve always wanted to do something to help out the school without having to be on campus during the school day, we have opportunities for you! None of these are a large task, individually – but when just three parents are handling all of these alone, it is a lot.
We are looking to fill all of these open positions. If you would like to join us in supporting Westview staff, students, clubs, sports and activities, please read through the attached job descriptions. Then join the Executive Board for our meeting on Wednesday, December 15 , at 6 o’clock PM in the Career Center at Westview, if you would be interested in any of these positions. The General PTO meeting will follow immediately after at 6:30 PM. We always do the meetings back-to-back on the third Wednesday of each month throughout the school year. There are no meetings in December or June.
We expect to vote on adding a Communications Person at this meeting, as multiple people have expressed interest in this job. All other positions are completely open so please come join us, ask questions, get support along the way, and enjoy doing something to help support our school and community!
Warm regards,
Sadie McIntyre

2019-2020 Support Our School Drive
While many students at Westview are involved in sports and activities, well supported by our Westview community, every one of our students needs our support to graduate and succeed in the future. We try not to take away from all of our clubs, sports, and other groups, by hosting car washes, bake sales, or dine out nights; instead we ask that you consider contributing once per school year.
The PTO receives requests from different programs and teachers throughout the year, and we do everything we can to fulfill all of these requests - from graduation mentor program support, to the science department, to the arts. We have helped teachers afford supplies for the classroom and assisted in funding to support field trips. With the end of the calendar year fast approaching, please consider giving today.
Our suggested contribution is $20/student, but please give anything you can - every dollar helps!
We are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and your donation may be tax deductible. Please consider making a contribution today! Make checks payable to: "Westview PTO" no amount is too small! Mail to: Westview High School * ATTN: Westview PTO * 4200 NW 185th Ave. * Portland, OR 97229 or Contribute right now online

Mock Interviews
You’re Invited:
It's time for our annual "Mock Interview” event for all juniors at Westview High School DECEMBER 10th and 11th 2019.
We would be delighted and grateful to have you join us as a mock job interviewer.
If you have not joined us in the past, we will hold over 600 interviews over two days in the school library. To give students a close to real-world experience, interviews are run as if they were applying for an entry-level job.
Mock Interview volunteers are needed from 8:00-11:15 am and
11:45 am-2:30 pm on both Tuesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 11. Refreshments will be provided.
To volunteer for the mock interviews, you must have a myimpactpage.com profile that is matched with Westview.
To create a myimpactpage.com profile, please submit the District’s Volunteer and Background Check Application as either a Parent/Guardian or Community Member. You will receive a confirmation email as soon as this has been processed and your profile is matched with Westview.
Or, if you already have a myimpactpage.com profile, but it is not matched with Westview, please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us.
To sign-up for the perfect Mock Interview shift for your schedule login to your myimpactpage.com profile. Under the opportunities tab, select Westview and then Calendar View.
Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can help you with anything. ann_voorhees@beaverton.k12.or.us
Thanks for your consideration. I know your time is valuable, and we really appreciate every effort you make to share it with us during this important annual event at Westview High School.

ACE Mentorship Program for Students in Grades 11 & 12 DUE TODAY
Do you know a junior or senior who is interested in Architecture, Construction or Engineering (ACE)? If so, the ACE Mentor Program might interest them. Students can design a building, learn valuable work skills, and explore careers in architecture, construction and engineering.
ACE is a FREE after-school program for high school juniors and seniors interested in Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE). Student teams collaborate on a building design project under the guidance of industry professionals. ACE also offers college scholarships for seniors and summer camp opportunities for juniors.
ACE STUDENTS gain valuable career skills, network with professionals, and explore ACE careers.
ACE MENTORS give back to their community, inspire the next generation, and attract new talent to the industry.
The program runs January – May 2020 and applications are due Friday, November 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Students are placed on a Tuesday or Thursday team with 10-15 students from different high schools and 7-10 mentors from a mix of architecture, construction, and engineering firms. Teams meet 13 times (once a week or once every two weeks) from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Light meals are served at each meeting and supplies are provided. Prior experience and outside homework are not required. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from meetings.
Meetings are held in downtown Portland at ACE mentors’ offices and job sites. Students have the opportunity to visit multiple professional workplaces, learn how to network, and explore career paths within the ACE industry. Teams design a building together, and students present their projects to a large audience at the program finale in May.
ACE will hold an optional Student/Family Information Session on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Merlo Station High School, 1841 SW Merlo Dr., Beaverton.
For more information, visit the ACE Mentor Program website at acementor.org/Portland-or, or refer students to your school’s college and career coordinator/counselor.

Senior Project, 11th grade Mock Interviews and CRLEs
12th grade students should have submitted their Senior Project idea to their Community Teacher. Senior Projects are part of the required Career Education credit all students must complete to graduate.
11th graders have Mock Interviews coming up on December 10th and 11th. They should be uploading or completing a resume in CIS to prepare for their interview. Mock Interviews are part of the required Career Education credit all students must complete to graduate.
ALL students were able to hear three community members speak about their career paths. This was a Career Related Learning Experience (CRLEs). CRLEs should be completed in their CIS website. CRLEs are part of the required Career Education credit all students must complete to graduate.
Report Cards Are Going Paperless
The Beaverton School District is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. This upcoming Progress period will be the last time we will be printing and mailing paper progress reports/report cards. The electronic report cards will be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If parents/guardians have not set up their ParentVUE account, they will need to do so by January 2020.
There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up an account.
There are several benefits to moving to paperless report cards. Families will be able to view grades days after grading days, rather than wait up to two weeks for a report card to come by mail or in their child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.
Please encourage parents/guardians to contact their school if they need help setting up or accessing their ParentVUE account or need assistance with a printed copy. We will be sharing more information about this transition in the coming weeks.
