ABC Countdown

There are 19 days left until the last day of school. Many staff and students are joining in the ABC Countdown festivities with yoga poses, xtra fancy clothing, and Wildcat T-shirts. Please visit the school's Facebook page to see some of their participation pictures. Check out the ABC Countdown schedule to see what we will be doing to make the last few weeks at Sprague even more fun and exciting for students. The school invites families to countdown from Z to A engaging in activities corresponding with a given day. Send pictures of the activities to mvanduch@d103.org or text to 847-791-3749.

On Behalf of Sprague School, I would like to send our heartfelt appreciation for all that you did for Sprague this year! From the welcome sign on the front lawn, yummy lunch, the cute masks, and all the fun bright decorations in our lounges, it was all appreciated and made our day! You were even able to send gift cards to our remote staff for their own lunches. We cannot thank you enough for your support throughout the school year. This year has been challenging, but with the kindness and support of our PTO, we were able to carry on! We hope everyone has a wonderful end of the year and know that your support means the world to us!

Game Nights Set for Remote Learners

Game Nights Set for Remote Learners

Sprague has scheduled some in person Family Game Nights for REMOTE learners.
  • Remote EC-K: Tuesday, May 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Remote First-Grade: Wednesday, May 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Remote Second-Grade: Thursday, May 27 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.


Join other remote families in your child’s class in person as we socially distance, wear masks, and play board games with your family outdoors in the Sprague Garden. This will give our remote students a first opportunity to be at Sprague with their families, while also seeing peers from their class. Watch for more details to follow on in-person Family Game Nights for remote learners.

The deadline for the Sprague Virtual Art Show is today, May 7. For information on types of project to submit and how to submit projects, please review these directions. Sprague will showcase the artwork on Friday, May 14 on the D103 YouTube channel.

  • Please return all Sprague library books to school no later than Friday, May 28.

  • Friday, May 21 there is No School for Early Childhood through Eighth-Grade (Teacher Remote Planning Day - originally a full day of school)

  • Wednesday, May 26 will be a Full Day of School for Early Childhood through Grade 8 (originally a half day of school and nonattendance day for early childhood students)

  • Thursday, June 3, Last Day of School for Early Childhood (Full Day)

  • Friday, June 4, Last Day of School for kindergarten through seventh-grade students (Watch for a change in learning schedule on this day)

  • From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, Principal Ann Hofmeier will host a remote Zoom meeting to explain the Sprague Kindergarten Program.
  • Half Day is planning for a summer orientation for its incoming third-graders.

D103 Seats a New School Board

The D103 Board of Education thanked Board Members Malathy Dwaraknath and Liang Yang for their years of service on the school board. Each member shared stories personal to them about the departing members.


Newcomers Maria Peterson and Michael Weaver, along with incumbents Kate Harper and Anne van Gerven, were sworn into office after being elected to four-year school board terms in April. Mrs. van Gerven was nominated and appointed to serve as board president for two years. Mrs. Harper was nominated and appointed to serve as board vice president for two years.

103 Club Accepting Campers

Camp 103 Club is open to all D103 students. There are still openings in the camp. Students do not need to be in summer school to attend camp. If your child is not in summer school, please drop your child off at Sprague at 12:15 p.m. for the start of camp. Please visit Camp 103 Club for more information.


Children do NOT need to participate in 103 Club during the school year to attend Camp 103 Club. Camp 103 Club operates after District 103 summer school hours and operates out of Sprague School. Parents will need to pick up from Camp 103 Club. Please email 103 Club Director Robynn Bryant at rbryant@d103.org for more information.

Girl Scouts Launches Becoming Me program

Girl Scouts is launching the “Becoming Me” program in collaboration with Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Penguin Random House! Inspired by themes from Mrs. Obama’s Becoming: Adapted for Young Readers, Girl Scouts’ new Becoming Me program aims to help girls become their best selves.
