Principal's Message

Hello Families,

I am so proud to highlight the work of our "Go Green" club that was started several years ago based on the vision of one young leader who wanted to "recycle and make our campus a better place". Today, our club leaders worked on sorting our bottles and cans to prepare them to be taken to the recycling center. The money we earn through recycling goes right back to our school as we purchase PE equipment, club t-shirts, and other items directly used by our students. Our children are proactive about helping our environment and are learning valuable life skills. They feel empowered and know they are making a difference.

Thank you "Go Green" club!

Most sincerely,

Mrs. Morton

We will have a costume parade on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 8:15AM. Please send your student to school in their costume and a change of clothes if their costume will be uncomfortable to wear all day. Our parade will be held outdoors and classes will be socially distanced. If you do not want your child to participate, please let your classroom teacher know. We will provide an alternate activity in the library. No parents will be allowed on campus for this event.

Playground Changes

Since the beginning of the school year, we have maintained stable groups on the playground. Students were only allowed to play with friends in their own class. Starting Monday, October 11, 2021, we will start allowing students to play on the playground in mixed groups. This means that students may be mixed with students outside their own class. Masks will remain optional on the playground since it is an outdoor space. Should we have a positive COVID case, we will conduct the necessary contact tracing during the playground time.

Student Store Donations Wanted

Did your student come home super excited about visiting our Student Store last month?

We use Leadership Slips on our campus to reward great behavior and exemplary use of our 7 Habits. Every month, students have the opportunity to shop at our Student Store with their Leadership Slips. We are in need of items for our Student Store.

Can you help?

Please click on the link below:

You may bring items to the office

Make sure your child is not marked absent when on quarantine or home with symptoms. See below:

Independent Study Agreement for All Families

Currently, students on quarantine are marked absent, but once parents/guardians approve for their student to participate in independent study during quarantine, the student will begin to generate positive attendance as they complete and submit their assignments on Canvas to help them keep up academically with their classmates.

To facilitate this process, we are asking that you approve one Independent Studies Agreement for the full school year that will serve for any short-term period that your child may need to be out of school on required quarantine.

The email you received contains a personalized link for your child so their information will populate from our computer data system. You will only need to verify that the information is correct and approve the agreement.

If you can't find the email, complete the form here. You will need to know your student's 9 digit ID number.

T.H.E. Leadership Academy named Apple Distinguished School

T.H.E. Leadership Academy is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2021-2024 for its transformation of student learning with iPad devices. We always ask, “What would make a dragon want to jump out of bed and run to school each morning?” We believe students should feel their inner light shining brightly every day. To accomplish this, our school has created an empowering environment where students can become self-directed, engaged leaders of their own learning. They are active in their education, not passive recipients of a teacher’s direction. When you walk into a classroom, you feel the energy as students research real-world topics, engage in problem- solving experiences, create interactive projects, and share them, all while building global competencies. This requires personalized technology that offers opportunities for inquiry, problem solving, and innovating.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to connect students to the world, fuel creativity, deepen collaboration, and make learning personal.

Principal Kim Morton shared, "Our staff is committed to offering a learning experience that focuses on the student leading their own learning. We put tools in students’ hands to research, document, collaborate, create, and share learning with the world. We provide opportunities for critical decisions as students synthesize content knowledge and compile it in a manner suitable for sharing. Students are presented with a buffet of apps and tools that access multiple modalities. These enable students to present with visuals, videos, voice recordings, original music, drawings and written content. Student strengths shine as they develop their talents using Apple products. Original drawings are created using the Apple Pencil, original scores are produced using GarageBand, and products are presented with iMovie. The student is the director of their own creation and must decide which technology tools will lead to their best final product. The learning transfers from one app to the next and students become the decision-makers based on how they want their product to look. The result is that no project looks the same but rather every product is as unique as the student."

The selection of T.H.E. Leadership Academy as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its success in creating an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic achievement.

Habit 2 Explained for Students & Parents

Arriving Late & Leaving Early

School begins promptly at 8:00am. If your student arrives after the morning bell, please walk them into the office to sign them in and get a tardy slip.

We ask that you do not check your child out after 1:45pm. Additionally, if you do not provide a medical note to check your student out early, it will remain as an out early tardy. Our school district and School Attendance Review Board consider three unexcused absences (including tardies or early pick ups of 30 minutes or more) as a truancy.

If your student has an appointment during the day, please bring them back to school after so they do not miss out on learning opportunities.

We appreciate you being prompt in picking your child up after school. Or staff is not able to supervise a large number of students for an extended amount of time.
