LIBERTY LEDGER
MAY 2021
MESSAGE FROM MR. SMITH, PRINICIPAL
Dear CTA Liberty Families,
Thank you for your amazing support this year. As we all know, the year brought so many ups and downs along with great moments of accomplishments. It seemed as if every decision evolved around safety mitigations, COVID, or one protocol or another. Our students and staff have done an amazing job of overcoming the daily challenges to get us through the school year.
Although we are wrapping up the school year, we are very excited about our 2021-22 school year. Our planning for next school year is already in full swing and we are excited to be reviewing some of our core expectations at CTA Liberty.
- Updating our vision and mission.
- School safety and being aware of who is on campus and why.
- What indicators we use for student success.
- What are best technology practices.
- How do we involve our parents and community?
These are just a few of the planning topics and goal setting items we will be working on over the summer.
Let’s finish our year strong, enjoy our summer, and embrace the 2021-22 school year with a new outlook and fresh start.
Respectfully,
Mr. Anthony M. Smith
MESSAGE FROM MRS. LERMA, DEAN OF STUDENTS
Dear CTA Liberty Community,
Although the year started out virtual and safety mitigations had to be implemented, we came together as a community to provide a safe environment for learning. I cannot thank everyone enough for your endless hours of reading, organizing, sometimes instructing and doing whatever was necessary to support students—both at home and at school. A big thank you to our PTO who despite many challenges continued to provide whatever was necessary to add to our students’ and teachers school experience.
That experience could not occur without the endless energy, skills and devotion of the CTA Liberty staff. Thank you and well done to an incredible group of professionals.
A final word to CTA Liberty students: Thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I am so honored to be your dean; you make me proud to be a Liberty Eagle. You keep me young at heart. I am grateful for your joy, astute insights and amazing talents. Best wishes to our sixth graders, as they enter the next stage of their schooling. Everyone have a safe and happy summer break.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Melissa Lerma

Mrs. Tollefson Honored by the Sun Lakes Rotary Club
The Sun Lakes Rotary honored Mrs. Tollefson as teacher of the month for April. Mrs. Tollefson received a framed certificate and $500 from the the Sun Lakes Rotary - sponsored by Trust Bank and Earnhardt Auto Centers.
Read the recommendation submitted by Mr. Smith and Mrs. Lerma about Mrs. Tollefson:
Mrs. Tollefson or Mrs. T to her students brings the library to life for every student that comes through the library doors. Kristin Tollefson has been in education for 16 years. She has had the opportunity to teach many levels from fourth through Junior High. Four years ago, Liberty was fortunate to have her join our team as our school librarian. Liberty has had a strong tradition of a fantastic library experience for students. Kristin embraced that tradition with passion and creativity and brought the literary world to our students and teachers. Her lessons and book challenges bring her readers to exercise their reading legs in genres that they may never have thought about. Kristin's imagination intertwines student's love of book characters into spirt days as well as preparing those to take on Battle of the Books. Kristin is such a vital part of our school community outside of the library as well. She captures our school activities for social media, organizes our school school yearbook, sits on the social committee building strong relationships with the Liberty staff, and organizes and hosts record-breaking book fairs with sales that benefit our school community. Kristen does all this and maintains curriculum rigor in her instruction. Kristin's passion for education through the library has added a spark to our learners and teachers that transfers into all of our classrooms. Kirstin exemplifies what the rotary club is about; she unites our readers together to bring knowledge to the forefront through literary exposure.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS. T!
