Thurston Colt Round-Up
Bi-monthly Student and Family Newsletter
From the Principal
August 26, 2022
Dear Thurston Students and Families,
Campus is a busy place to be. This past week we hosted jamborees for volleyball and soccer. Next Friday, September 2nd, we play our first home football game of the season. Our summer enrichment camps have wrapped up - with students participating in Robotics, Video Production, Culinary, Band and Orchestra, Strong Start and Leadership camps. More than 200 students connected to campus through summer enrichment camps. The end of summer is beginning to collide with the start of fall.
The first day of school is almost here. We cannot wait to see all students back on campus, ready to connect with staff and peers! We will see Freshman on Wednesday, September 7th. All other grades return Thursday, September 8th.

What's my class schedule? Student schedules continue to change. Your student's schedule will be viewable on parentvue and studentvue beginning Tuesday, August 30th. Thank you for your patience as we work to finalize student schedules that include all the courses students need to be on-track for graduation.
Advisory: Our current class schedule includes additional minutes during 3rd and 4th period. This additional time is for advisory. Advisory will occur each day at the end of 3rd and 4th period. Advisory is one way students will access key school-wide communication - like the THS Real News that advertises upcoming pep assemblies, activities, and celebrations around campus.
School-Issued Technology: Students who do not yet have a school-issued Chromebook can check out devices from the library on Tuesday, August 30th (at the Rodeo).

Online Registration Verification Help Night: Have you tried registering online and run into some tech challenges? We're here to help! Drop-in to campus Monday, August 29th between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Online registration link: https://sps.sis.k12.or.us/PXP2_OEN_Login.aspx
THS Colt Rodeo: The Rodeo is where students take school pictures for their student ID and bus pass, get their locker assigned, and pay school fees. Students with licenses can sign up for a parking pass. Please bring proof of address, e.g. a utility bill (if not uploaded during the online registration process).
What Time?
- 11th and 12th grades from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
- 9th and 10th grades from 12:00 p.m. (noon) - 2:00 p.m.
School Fees: Want to skip the lines? You can pay your fees in advance!
All Student Body (ASB) Fee: $30 https://tinyurl.com/THSASBFee
Student Supply Fee: $25 (reduced from 2021!) https://tinyurl.com/THSStudentFee
What’s the Student Supply Fee do? We no longer charge course specific fees. This fee allows us to provide specialized course supplies - from paint to wood to computers - for all students.
Make-Up Rodeo: There may be life events that prevent students and families from attending the THS Rodeo on August 30th. A make-up "mini-rodeo" will be set up in front of Student Services on Thursday, September 8th. Make-up school picture and student ID photos will be taken on Friday, September 9th in the school cafeteria beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 9:30 a.m.
<repeat> Back-to-School Supplies: In addition to a school provided device and course specific supplies, Thurston High School Teachers have compiled a list of items all students should have to engage fully in class.
All students should have a backpack, and a personal supply of paper, writing utensils (both pens and pencils), highlighters, 1-2 notebooks, and a binder. Teachers strongly recommend no zipper binders!
9th/10th grades use scientific calculators such as a TI30XIIS or TI30XS
11th/12th grade students taking Algebra II or above are strongly encouraged to have a TI83 or TI84 calculator (these are allowed on CN or AP exams and the ACT/SAT).
Student clothing should not depict drugs, alcohol, violence or harassment.
<repeat> Meet ‘n’ Greet Ice Cream Social - Tuesday, September 6th, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. With many new faces, we wanted to create an opportunity for families to come on campus and meet our administration team. We’ll provide the ice cream.
