MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOTZNY

Dear Parents,

Sampson Elementary is turning 20 years old this fall. We are celebrating by having a community open house on Thursday, Oct. 20th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The entire school will be accessible, and we hope to have many of our former students and staff members back on campus. Our Sampson Singers will be performing at 5:30 p.m. and we will have students from the Cy-Woods Band and the Crimson Cadettes outside at 6:30 p.m. We will also have the book fair in the library. We hope that you will join the celebration!

Sincerely,

Heather Motzny

Sampson Spelling Bee 2022-23

Sampson Students and Parents:

Here’s the buzz! On Friday, Nov. 4th, there will be a written spelling test for qualification in the oral Sampson Spelling Bee to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14th from 4:15-5:45pm. Guests may attend the Sampson Bee.

This opportunity is open to all 3rd - 5th graders. The written test will be given during your child’s large group period, and a score of 100% is the goal to qualify for the oral spelling bee.

If your child is interested, please complete the attached permission slip and return it to the homeroom teacher as soon as possible (no later than Monday, October 17th). The list of words to study will be sent home once the permission slip is received.

**NEW FEATURE: If your child was a 2021-22 oral Sampson School Spelling Bee participant last year and would like to participate again, they qualify for a “fast pass”. These students will not need to take a written qualifying test but will receive the oral spelling bee study words after returning the permission slip.

If your child becomes our school Champion, the District Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2023, after school at the Berry Center. The winners will go on to a Regional Bee later in the spring.

Character Education

For the month of October, we will be focusing on the character trait Integrity as we Bring Out the Best in CFISD. Integrity is knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do the right thing, even when it is difficult. Below are links to an activity you can do at home with your child(ren) based on grade level.

Nature Trails

Do you love the great outdoors and helping students learn? Then our third and fifth grade Nature Trails might be for you! Sampson third and fifth graders will attend Nature Trails on January 19th (math/sci homerooms) and January 20th (ELAR homerooms). We will need parents at the stations to help facilitate the activities and teach the concepts. Volunteers must be currently trained (year 2021 and up) since the Trails has a completely new curriculum. Please see the following for training details and know we will be coordinating grade level sign ups soon:
