Weekly Update - Week 16
Word of Encouragement - Psalm 10:16-18
The Lord is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land. Lord, thou
hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine
ear to hear: To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no
more oppress.

5th Edition News and Updates
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by planning and assessing your homeschool year? The updated Foundations 5th Edition Curriculum offers five suggestions for mapping out and evaluating the course for you families homeschooling journey.
“Goals, like a road map, provide direction for the year ahead. They also provide a starting point for choosing what and how to study. Curriculum can be translated from Latin as the “course to be run.” You will set this course at the beginning of the year; however, as you run along the course, you will encounter unforeseen events. Therefore, your course will need to be flexible and adaptable.” (Foundations 5th Edition Curriculum, p. 16)
This is just a snippet and we think you're going to love all that the 5th Edition Curriculum has to offer!

UNLOCKING GRAMMAR- THE ART OF LANGUAGE
Have you ever redeemed a coupon? What did you get in return for that little piece of paper? An ice cream cone? A discount on laundry detergent? A free movie ticket?
Have you ever wished you could redeem your education? “Return it” for something more valuable to you? Many parents begin the homeschooling journey determined to give their children a better education than the one they received. But, many of us wish we could transform our own educations, too. Practicums offer parents that chance!
Our yearly 3-Day Parent Practicums offer encouragement, inspiration, and equipping to parents and interested educators. Each summer, parents at all stages of the homeschooling journey spend three days delving into the underlying philosophy and the practicalities of the classical model; then, we challenge ourselves to dig deeper into a specific subject, discovering the truths behind the facts and becoming students ourselves. We learn new ideas and vocabulary, we begin to understand how to identify and fill in the gaps in our own educations, and we wrestle with big ideas in the company of a like-minded community; in short, we practice learning classically! As an added bonus, we get to model the skills of learning for our children; we show them how exciting it is to learn new ideas and demonstrate that learning is a lifelong pursuit.
Parent Practicums—where lifelong learning can be a family affair!
We are offering fun camps for the kids and tutor training.
Let me or your director know if you are interested in working at one of our practicum camps.
Thanks all and I can't wait to study Grammar with y'all this summer!

Weekly Student Presentation
Week 16: Tall Tales, Fables, and Legends
Retell a tall tale, legend, fairy tale, or fable using a picture book, if helpful. OR make up a fable of your own. Draw a picture or two (or a comic strip!!). Consider telling the story in first person.
Week 17: Favorite Vacation
Tell us about your most favorite vacation ever. Where did you go? Who did you go with? What did you do? OR tell us about vacation plans you have coming up.
Week 18: Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech!
Tell us about a famous speech. Better yet, memorize a portion of that speech and recite it to your class!! Consider speeches such as: the Gettysburg Address, MLK's "I Have a Dream", or Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty." Younger kids can simply focus on 1-2 lines. Tell us what was going on in history during that time period.
Week 19: Impromptu Out-of-the-Bag
One more time….Be prepared to talk about anything! Tutors will have pre-determined questions.
Week 20: Field Trip Day
Tell us about your favorite field trip of the year. Where did you go? Who did you go with? What did you learn? Consider places like museums, nature centers, etc… Bring in pictures to share with your class. OR pick a piece of architecture, either in our city, or around the world to tell us about. Tell us the history of this building. Who made it? Why? When? Have you ever been there?
Week 21: Famous People
If you could meet any one famous person, who would it be and why? The President of the U.S.? The Queen? A famous singer? Tell us why they are famous and what interests you about them. What kinds of questions would you ask of them?
Week 22: Scripture Memory
Memorize a verse or passage of Scripture to
share with your class. Tell us why you chose that particular piece.
Week 23: Summer Plans
Tell us about any summer plans you may have. Any big trips coming up? Pool plans? Camps? What do you like to do over the summer? OR spice it up a bit. Hide a clue in a bag, and have the class GUESS what you'll be doing this summer by giving hints.
Week 24: Anything Goes….Round Two!!
It's the last week! Anything goes! What would YOU like to tell us about?
This is our last week together so let’s finish strong. Think about all you have learned and put it all together this week. Try for 2-3 minutes!
