ASIAN CARP TAKING OVER THE WORLD
Brandon Mahon reports
WHERE AND WHEN THEY CAME
The Asian Carp originated in Asia in the 1960s-1970s they came down to Canada in a flood
WHAT IS IT DOING TO US
The Asian carp is a real threat to our economy. They can eat off all the other fish and of coarse break the necks of people .
WHAT ARE THEY DOING ABOUT IT
The government of Ontario is working to keep Asian carps out of the Great Lakes. They have made it illegal in Ontario to handle live Bighead, Silver, Grass or Black carp. People have been caught, bringing Asian carp into Ontario to make money
HOW DID IT COME TO THIS
Asian carp were imported from Southeast Asia to the United States to help aquaculture and waste water treatment facilities keep retention ponds clean. Flooding allowed these fish to escape into the Mississippi River system and migrate into the Missouri and Illinois rivers. The Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois rivers are all connected and allow fish to swim freely between them. The Illinois River is also connected to the Great Lakes by a manmade connection, known as the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal
