Cougar Community Connection
A weekly newsletter from your principal, Shannon McPherson
We are well on our way into this 23-24 school year. Routines are established, BOY assessments are almost complete and we have learning plans in place for this first semester. Where the beginning of the year is exciting and fun, we crave being past the beginning and into a place where we are moving and grooving with learning and growing. Your child's teachers have been a part of weekly meetings where they are looking at student data and busy making instructional decisions about your kids. We are so proud of this new model of analyzing data weekly in order to strategically make tweaks while our kids are in the midst of their units of study.
We are also excited to kick off this year's ONE AND ONLY fundraiser, the Fun Run, next week. Please take a look at the details from the PTA section about how you can help our school raise funds to enrich the programming at our school. The goals for our music program, extra personnel and even engineering enhancements to our digital programming for kids, are very exciting things that Cougar Run will be able to offer that no other elementary schools in DCSD are offering. Thank you in advance for helping us be the best neighborhood school in Douglas County!
Have a great Labor Day weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, September 5th.

Parent/Teacher Conference Week September 18-21
Parent-Teacher conferences are an opportunity to celebrate our kids and establish strong partnerships to support their academic and social/emotional growth. Please sign up with your child's teacher for a conference to review the progress that your child is making at Cougar Run. Please keep in mind that our teachers have many families to schedule, so we are asking for you to only sign up for only one conference spot for each child you have. We have many students who live in two households, so please work with the other parent to schedule at a time that works for you both. We can accommodate with virtual conferences too if that makes our split households more comfortable, that works, too.

Would you like to help us serve FREE MEALS to students this school year?
My name is Jeffery and I am the kitchen manager at Cougar Run Elementary.
Do you have an hour or two that you would like to spend with us?
We are flexible and willing to work with your schedule.
No previous experience necessary. There are so many ways to help.
Let's talk about how you can volunteer your time!
We are on a mission to serve food to students this year.

Patience in Drop Off/ Pick Up Loop
Please also keep patience at the heart of drop off and pick up time. Everyone has kids to drop off/pick up and there's only one way to get in and out. Help us keep the process as smooth as possible and safe for our kids, families and staff.
Learn More About the Bond/MLO
Upcoming Bond/MLO Measures for Voters
As most of you are aware, our school district is in desperate need of passing the Bond/MLO measure that will be on this year's November Ballot. The bond measure directly impacts the maintenance of current schools and the construction of new ones. The Mill Levy impacts staff compensation. Both measures would allow us to be where the other neighboring large school districts currently are when it comes to operation costs and staff compensation. Recruitment and retention of staff continues to be a challenge because our teachers on average make 10,000 dollar less than the school district right across County Line Road. We need your help! Below is a website that DCSD has put together to allow you as taxpayers to understand how school funding works. Please take a look as we need our community to be the voice to those who don't understand the impact these measures have on our neighborhood schools.DCSD Funding Website
