Morning Music Selection of the Week at HES!
Prelude or Overture to Carmen by George Bizet.
Carmen is an opera in four acts by French composer George Bizet.
Carmen has become one of the most popular and frequently performed operas in the world.
The opera is written in the style of comic opera with musical songs separated by dialogue. It is set in southern Spain and tells the story of a soldier called Don José.
Before an opera starts, the music we hear is called the overture or prelude. It is made up of tunes from the songs of the opera, and gives us an idea of what is coming later on. It is like us reading a short description of a book before we borrow or buy it.
