Speed; Not Just A Drug
The speed we travel in motor-vehicles
Speeding in Australia
Speeding means driving too fast or too recklessly for the conditions without paying attention to vehicle condition, road conditions or driver ability. It is not simply driving above the signed speed limit.
Speed statistics, taken in Victoria
The difference between 55 km/h and 65 km/h is that you will either brake in time or you will hit the obstacle at a speed of 32 km/h.
"Speeding. No one thinks big of you."
"The aim of ‘Speeding – no one thinks big of you’ was to make speeding socially unacceptable."
The creative approach of the campaign was to increase the social unacceptability of speeding within communities in Australia. To combat the speeders’ behaviour and perception that speeding is a manly, macho act, the RTA created a device - the ‘Pinkie’ - to undermine their feelings of coolness and empower the community. This is further reinforced by the tag-line ‘Speeding. No one thinks big of you’. The key elements included television, cinema, outdoor, print and online advertising as well as public relations. One of the key innovations of ‘Speeding. No one thinks big of you’ was delivering the anti-speeding message in a youthful, non-authoritative way.
Lower speed means more control and less deaths.
When driving play to the conditions and don't drive out of your comfort zone.
When driving with friends, remember that speeding doesn't make you look cool.
