Fairfield ES Update
October 23, 2020
Our Committment To Learning
- Committment to anti-discrimination and anti-racist teaching and learning
- Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing
- Growth Mindset
- Understanding various special needs and how to meet them
- Mental Health & Wellness
Our School Learning Plan goals also continue to focus on Literacy and Numeracy, where we are using school-wide common language to provide consistency in our learning. We are committed to improvement in literacy and numeracy through regular use of a wide variety of teaching strategies to meet the various learning needs of the students in our school.
Growth Mindset continues to be a focus as we know that we learn from mistakes, and that it is through failure and mistakes that we often have the most to learn. While mistakes can be challenging, we also know that this is where incredible learning happens.

School Spirit Days
School Spirit Days are always a big hit at Fairfield! These dates are posted on the school calendar on our website (https://fairfield.limestone.on.ca/) as well.
Tuesday October 27 - Dress Purple Day - This is a day where Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario raise awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families. As an important partner in supporting chidlren and families, LDSB schools will help to recognize this day.
Friday October 30 - Black & Orange Day. No costumes or accessories please!
Moving forward, unless there is a special spirit day, we are suggesting that every Friday be "Falcon Friday". We encourage staff and students to wear school clothing and/or colours!
Terry Fox Update
It is not to late to donate if you wish. Online donations are accepted at: http://www.terryfox.ca/FairfieldESAmherstview
Online Learning Platforms
There are a number of platforms that teachers may use, and if they have not yet done so, they will be sharing login, password, and access information with you.
Loyalist Township Public Transit Survey
An effective public transit system can be an important component of a connected, livable, and sustainable community. Loyalist Township Council identified improving the public transportation system as a key objective in the 2019 Strategic Plan and has committed to review, assess, and suggest enhancements to the transit system which could benefit the Loyalist Community. The purpose of this survey is to identify the transportation needs within Loyalist Township and to gather input which will be used to inform future decisions.
What Happens on Rainy Days?
We will also be spending as much time outside as possible for learning and movement as this also provides for a mask break for our students. Please have students dress for the weather including a rain coat and an extra pair of dry socks. We will stay in for recess should there be dangerous conditions such as temperatures below Public Health guidelines or lightning, for example; however, we will endeavour to spend as much time as possible for recess breaks outside even with some rain. When recesses are outside there is no indoor supervision and all students will be expected to be outside during that time.
Progress Reports
Achievement Reports that go home at the end of Term 1 and Term 2 provide marks/grades.
Danger in the Parking Lot
School Council Update
The next 2 meetings are scheduled virtually and will be held on Tuesday November 3rd at 6pm and Tuesday December 1st at 6pm. Please email the school at frfld@limestone.on.ca and the link to the meeting will be sent to you.
Covid-19 Daily Active Screening
Parents and caregivers must review the checklist with their child/student before sending them to school each day and before putting them on a school bus.
Please use the online COVID-19 School Screening Tool available in English and French (released October 1, 2020). You can print or download this version in English or French (by clicking on the top right). We are working on translations in additional languages. This new screening tool replaces what was provided previously (Sept. 21, 2020 version).
