APEX FUN RUN

Last Thursday we had our APEX Fun Run and it was definitely a lot of fun running. Thank you volunteers and cheerleaders for coming out to make the event go smoothly. Students learned leadership lessons, earned pledges, ran their laps and now they will be collecting the money for the pledges. We will build upon those leadership lessons in class and continue encouraging all my students to:

*Find Your Strengths

*Be Brave

*Stick Together

*Go Big

*Say Thanks

Pledge money is due this week in the envelopes sent home last Friday and we thank you for helping Wolf Canyon maintain our wonderful music program!

SBAC ASSESSMENT WEEK

Smarter Balance (SBAC) testing starts next week for 4th grade, May 4-8. Students will take this test in language arts and math online using compact ASUS laptop computers. I would like to make sure my students have optimal testing environment and experience. You can help by:

  • Ensure students arrive to school on time prepared for learning
  • Be sure students eat a well-balanced meal every morning
  • Encouraging your child to try their best
  • Discuss with your child their experience with the test
We will be reviewing all this week and homework will reflect our review. Please note: there will not be homework the week of testing. Thank you for your continued support!

CHALK WALK SHOUT OUTS

Every student will take part in completing sidewalk art that depicts RESPONSIBILITY on May 28th. THANK YOU to Angela's and A.J.'s parents for volunteering to help with the 5th Annual Chalk Walk. And a big thank you to A.J.'s family for donating baby wipes. It is very much appreciated. This is quite a messy but FUN event so we are requesting more baby wipes and water bottles for our class. Thank you for sending in any donations for this event.

4TH GRADE PLAY

We are off to a running start for our play! We now have all 6 songs written and have begun learning them in class. I would like to strongly encourage your child to practice at home as well since the lyrics are lengthy and may take some time to get the melody. *See songs and lyrics below. At our May 21st performance at 6:30 we will be selling concessions so our class is responsible for providing snack foods. We are asking for donations of chips/pretzels/crackers (i.e small snack bags of Goldfish, Cheez-its, etc.) Thank you so much for helping make this event a success!

***TUESDAY MATH TUTORING***

This week we will continue reviewing concepts taught throughout the entire year but also prepare for our fraction quiz Friday. If your child is having trouble with fractions or the review math homework, please send him/her to tutoring. Students will eat their lunch in the classroom.

WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORTS

Please sign and return your child's report in the homework folder on Friday so that I know you are aware of your child's performance in class this past week, including any make-up Achieve 3000 articles they may need to complete over this weekend.

Rihanna - Four Five Seconds ( Karaoke / Instrumental )

FOUR FIVE SECONDS

Song 1 To the tune of Four Five Seconds by Rihanna

(Sung by Chorus)

FIRST CHORUS]

Now let’s introduce, Mr. Captain Swain

He is a little mean, you might have to walk the plank

Cause all of his anger, is taken out on us

Now we’re Four Five Seconds from leavin'

‘Cause Captain Swain is bein’ too mean

We’re just tryna make it back home in one piece, man

I swear I’d rather just swim back

Ooh back to the shore

[SECOND CHORUS]

Woke up, the air was mist, could barely see I'm positive

We heard they stole his watch

Hold him back he’s bout' to spaz

[Hook]

Now he’s Four Five Seconds from pushin’

Them all right off the Lady Wilma

Just tryna make it back to California, yeah

I swear I wish somebody would tell Swain

There’s more gold out there

Song fades…

Man In The Mirror Karaoke with Lyrics

MAN IN THE MIRROR

Song 2: to the tune of Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson

(Dr. Buckbee, Ms. Anna Jones & Chorus)

You gotta make a change

For once in your life

It’s gonna feel real good

It’s gonna make a difference

Gonna make it right

When you feel yourself getting all

Frustrated and uncool

You need to keep in your mind

Your crew and you

With not enough to eat

Who are you to be mean

Pretending not to care at all

With so much disregard

We need to remain calm

Cool and collected

They look up to you as one of their role models

Be patient and composed

That’s why we want you to know

Gotta start with the man in the mirror

We’re asking you to change your ways

And no message

Could have been any clearer

If you wanna make the world

A better place

Take a look at yourself

And make a change

Na na na

na na na na

na na

We’ve been a victim of

Your stormy turbulence

It’s time that you realize

There is a better way

To live your life

To be nice, to be calm, even-tempered and at peace

Think how some cruel mean words

can really hurt deep down

Think before you speak

Take a deep breath and count to 10, if need

Remember to say please

And I’m starting with me

I'm starting with the man in the mirror

I'm asking him to change his ways

And no message could have been any clearer

If you want to make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself, and then make a change

I'm starting with the man in the mirror

I'm asking him to change his ways

And no message could have been any clearer

If you want to make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself and then make that (pause)

CHANGE!!!

I'm starting with the man in the mirror

(Oh yeah!)

I'm asking him to change his ways

(Better change!)

No message could have been any clearer

If you want to make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself and then make the change)

You gotta get it right, while you got the time

You can't close your, your mind!

With that man

With the man in the mirror

(oh yeah!)

I'm asking him to change his ways

(Better change!)

No message could have been any clearer

If you want to make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself and then make

the CHANGE

na na na na

na na

na na na na

(pause)

na na na na

na na

na na na na

…fade…

Tangled - When Will My Life Begin (Karaoke Version)

WHEN WILL MY LIFE BEGIN

Song 3 to the tune of When Will My Life Begin by Mandy Moore from Tangled

(Sung by chorus)

Dancers with octopus masks and tentacles

7 AM, the usual morning hunger:

Stomping around and kicking up all the sand,

Swimming and squirting, and swirling, I feel so grumpy

Yelling at others til,

It's like 7:15.

And so I'll go to school or maybe back to bed

I wish I had some toast maybe with jam to spread

I wish someone would come, and cook and basically

Just wonder who will bring me my bread?

Now it is lunch I still haven’t had my breakfast

All day on edge, I’m starting to feel the stress

Reading and Math, my energy’s quickly fading

Social Studies,

Science,

Take a walk,

Where’s my lunch?

And I'll go buy candy its all that I can spare

I'll read my books again, the words are there somewhere.

And now my stomach aches, aches and aches some more

Doin' the same things I’ve always done.

And I'll keep wonderin' and wonderin', and wonderin', and wonderin'

Is there a better way?

(Sung by mermaid trio)

If you ate 3 meals, fruits and veggies

You’d have more fun and so would your peers.

You’ll be okay, at least now you know,

Respect your body, it’s the only way you’ll grow

end of lyrics

Frozen - Let It Go (Idina Menzel) (Karaoke Version)

LET IT GO

Song 4: to the tune of Let it Go from Frozen

(Sung by Actors and Chorus)

(Captain Swain Sings)

The wind blows cold

on the ship tonight

Not a passenger to be seen

A kingdom of isolation

And it looks like I'm the cap-teen

The wind is howling

like this angry storm inside

Couldn't keep it in

Heaven knows I tried

Don't let them in

Don't let them see

Be the stern captain you always have to be

Conceal,

don't feel,

don't let them know...

Well now they know!

(Praiseworthy sings)

Let it go

Let it go

Can't hold it back anymore

Let it go

Let it go

Turn away and slam the door!

You do care

What their going to say

Let the winds rage on

The salty air never bothered you anyway

(Mountain Jim)

It's hard to find some distance

When this ship seems so small

And the anger that once controlled you

Can't get to you at all!

(The Shipmates)

It's time to see

What he will do

To test our limits and to break you

Go right, go left

There's always rules you see

(Jackie)

Let it go

Let it go

You can be a great guy

Let it go

Let it go

Stop making people cry!
We're making a stand and we want to say...

(Dr. Buckbee)

My goodness Captain everyone is scared to make a sound

Their soul's are spiraling in salty fractals from your growl

And one thought crystallizes like an ocean blast

You can move forward from this

The past is in the past!

(Captain Swain)

Let it go

Let it go

And I'll raise with the break of dawn

Let it go

Let it go

That "perfect" captain is gone

I guess I care

And I want them to say

Look at Captain Swain

Now there's someone I would follow any day

Best Day of My Life (In the Style of American Authors) (Karaoke Version)

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE

Song 5: to the tune of Best Day of My Life by American Authors

Oo-o-o-o-oo

We learned a lesson big and loud

And now I can be really proud

Wo-o-o-o-oh

No one’s perfect that’s for sure

I now know how to calm my nerves

Wo-o-o-o-oh

I’m never gonna blame again

Whoa, no more threatenin’

No, changed my attitude

Oo-o-o-o-oo

This is gotta be the lesson of our life

Our l-i-i-i-i-fe

Oo-o-o-o-oo

This is gotta be the lesson of our life

Our l-i-i-i-i-fe

Oo-o-o-o-oo

Oo-o-o-o-oo

I growled at the crew and friends

I was not kind to others then

Wo-o-o-o-oh

But now I turned my life around

Turned my frown right upside down

Wo-o-o-o-oh

I’m never gonna accuse again

Whoa, no more aggressiveness

No, we all make mistakes

Oo-o-o-o-oo

This is gonna be the best play of your life

Your l-i-i-i-i-fe

Oo-o-o-o-oo

This is gonna be the best play of your life

Your l-i-i-i-i-fe

Oo-o-o-o-oo

Oo-o-o-o-oo

Be so forgiving

Polite and caring

You feel it in your soul (soul)

Talk to friends and family

When you have a problem

You’ll never lose control (control)

Oo-o-o-o-oo

Oo-o-o-o-oo

This is gonna be the best play of your life

Your l-i-i-i-i-fe

Oo-o-o-o-oh

This is gonna be the best play of your life

Your l-i-i-i-i-fe

This is gonna be, this is gonna be, this is gonna be

The best play of your life

Everything is looking up, everybody up now

This is gonna be the best play of your life

Your l-i-i-i-i-fe

Finale Song: To the tune of Sugar by Maroon 5

I'm working people, I'm working hard

I need your teamwork, teamwork

I need it now

When I'm without you

I'm something weak

You got me begging, begging

To be a team

We gotta’ be writin’ the play

We gotta’ be painting the sets

And it's gotta’ be done by May, ooh, baby,

'Cause I really don't care who’s the star

We just wanna be there where you are

And we gotta get a little crazaay

Team Work

Yes, please

Won't you come and learn the lines with me?

I'm right here, 'cause I need

Little song and choreography

Yeah, we work well together

Makin’ a play

Need a creative freedom, in our lives

Team work

Yes, please

Won't you come and make a play with me?

The Great Horn Spoon

'Cause Timberwolves expect a pretty awesome play

We wanna sing some songs

We wanna dance for you

Wolf Canyon Timberwolves
