Relationships and Data
We have finished 14 days with our students! :-) The two most important things we can do right now is to continue to build relationships and analyze work samples, exit slips, and other assessments you are giving. As we begin to see where our students stand academically, really dig in to see what they know. You can do this by giving pre-assessments, spelling inventories, F & P, writing prompts, etc. Make sure you have set time for small groups not only in reading but other subjects as well. Make it a point to learn all that you can about your students as we move into fall.
I hope you have an amazing long weekend. You deserve to rest and relax!

Language Line
Laura sent out a video through email about Language Line. This is an easy way to communicate with parents who do not speak English. I have placed the form in your boxes with the information about language line. Put this in a place that you will be able to locate it easily. Please ask Hannah, Teresa, or Laura about it if you need to do so. We now can communicate with our parents who do not speak English. It is so user-friendly!
MAP
We will begin MAP testing Tuesday during your computer lab time. Please talk with your students about this test. Explain to them that they will know some of the questions but may not know others. Please plan to stay with them at least a portion of the time while they test so that they know the importance of doing their best. We will use MAP data much more this year. Christie Shealy will be coming soon to show us how to best use this data to help differentiate for our students.
Team Meetings for grades 3-5
We would like to meet with you next week. Please let me know which day you would like to meet either during your planning or after school.
Grade Level Night
If you have not given me a date that you plan to meet with parents for your grade level night, please do so. I will add it to the master calendar.
International Literacy Day- Sept. 8th
Please plan to dress up like your favorite character from your favorite book on Sept. 8th. Plan to share that book or a portion of your book to your class on that day. Let's get kids excited about reading!
