2nd Quarter is Here!

Field Trip Fun!

Thank you to Mr. Jennings for organizing an informative field trip to the Luck Stone Quarry. Rock experts boarded our buses and told us all about the super cool stones and rocks we saw. The students were amazed at the size of "real life TONKA trucks" as well as how deep into the earth we were able travel. We discussed the igneous rocks and their uses, saw the asphalt plant, and pondered the economics versus the environment issue. Some were distraught that there were no trees while others wanted to know how much bigger the hole could become.

Parent Portal--Get Connected before Middle School

Have you picked up your parent portal access letter yet? If you would like to have access to your child’s lunch balance, attendance, schedule, and you have not picked up your access ID and password, we have it in the front office. In the near future, this access will also allow you to view your child’s grades and progress reports. We have to verify your identity and signature of receipt is required so please bring your driver’s license with you.

Reading & Writing Emphasis

In the second quarter we will increase our focus on written communication. The students will be planning, drafting, revising and editing expository pieces. They will set grammar goals and work toward effectively mastering those areas of writing that present the most challenge. Please ask your child to share their successes with you each week. Most pieces will be prepared on Google and therefore are visible at home any time.

Montpelier Here We Come!

Remember next week we will head off for our last field trip this fall. Since James Madison is known as the Father of the Constitution, we are spending the day at his home. The students will have a tour and then participate in a couple of sessions using primary and secondary historical sources. Please pack lunch in a disposable bag. Thanks.

Saying Good-bye to Mr. Jennings

Next Friday, the 14th, will be Mr. Jennings' last day with us. We will have a small celebration to send him off into the world of teaching. Feel free to contact me if you would like to donate something towards the celebration.

Thanks for Volunteering!

Many thanks to Ms. Shantler for stepping up as our Scholastic Organizer. Look for monthly messages from her with ordering information.

Also, thanks to Ms. Christensen for an amazing ART PRINT lesson! Many hands make much available to our children.
