CoSA Communique
A Monthly Newsletter from Coronado School of the Arts
Welcome to Coronado School of the Arts -August 2020
For those of you who don't know me, I am Catherine Burling, an Assistant Principal at Coronado High School and the new Director of Coronado School of the Arts. This is my third year in Coronado, and I am incredibly excited to be overseeing the CoSA program.
Our return to learning for the Fall will be via distance learning due to COVID-19. As with the rest of your school day, CoSA lessons and activities will be delivered via the CUSD Bridge Program during that time. (see the link below for details on CUSD Bridge)
The 2020-21 school year marks an exciting milestone for CoSA. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary! Exciting events and opportunities to get involved are being planned throughout the year. In addition, this year we are launching a re-brand of our program. As some of you may have already noticed, part of this process is the new logo you will be seeing on CoSA communications moving forward. Stay tuned for more information.
We realize that a great deal of uncertainty about the new school year has many of you on edge. I believe I can speak for the entire CoSA staff in saying that we understand what it feels like not knowing what to expect, but we are going to be there by your side as you adjust to our new way of doing things in the time of COVID. We will be tackling new ways to teach, learn, and produce art for the time being, and you may find this more challenging than you are used to. Never forget, though, no matter what the world throws at us...there will be art.
I can't wait to see all of you in action very soon!

COSA FOUNDATION PROMOTIONAL VIDEO:
Dear CoSA Parents and Supporters,
We are excited to welcome you and your student artist to the 25th year of CoSA! As you know, CoSA has the highest admission standards and the most exacting expectations of its continuing students. Offering such a high-caliber program, with its breadth of instruction and resources, requires financial support from all our partners – especially the families of CoSA students.
We are currently living through a time unlike anything any of us has experienced. There is much uncertainty and even fear about what our collective future holds. We stand confident, however, in the future of Coronado School of the Arts, in our faith in our students and their abilities, and in the strength of the program we have nurtured and continue to provide at CoSA.
A large portion of CoSA’s funding comes from the Coronado Unified School District, various grants, and other public funding sources. But, with more and more need in the community, those funds are dwindling, and it is increasingly important that our parents and families support CoSA. Without parent contributions, CoSA cannot continue to offer these amazing programs.
To that end, we create a unique account for each student which is part of our larger Parent Fund. We suggest an annual donation of $2,000 per student. Payment options are available; many of our families commit to a monthly contribution over 10 or 12 months. Another option is to inquire about a matching contribution from your employer – this can make a big difference! All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Our goal is 100% participation, at some level, from all the CoSA families. You can make a one-time donation or set up recurring monthly contributions on our secure website: CoSAFoundation.Org/Parents.
To further assist each family in making its suggested annual donation, we will once again be sponsoring a fundraiser using Givebutter. This fundraiser gives each student and their family an opportunity to reach out to extended family, and friends through an effortless, secure, online platform. We had a tremendous response using this fundraiser last year and all funds raised via Givebutter will be applied to a student’s Parent Fund account.
Once again, welcome back! We look forward to working with you throughout your student’s CoSA journey! Should you have any questions, please contact the CoSA Foundation Executive Administrator, Beth Connelly, at 858.337.2567 or beth@cosafoundation.org.
