Happy October!

October 27th School Closed, Office Open
October 31st Halloween Parade 2-2:45pm
For Halloween, children are prohibited from bringing costumes with weapons, blood, or anything portraying death. As a school, we make it a point to discourage violence of any kind, particularly in this day and age, when children are becoming increasingly desensitized to violence. With the natural disasters occurring all over the world, we also want to avoid anything that may traumatize members of our community. We look forward to having a wonderful day, together as a community!
November 1st KA Field Trip to the Library
Caring Profile
Our Learner profile for the month of October is now Risk Taking.
Dance
Kindergarten dancers are sharpening their ability to physically respond to audible commands through performing short dance stories. Below is one of their favorite animal dance stories. Read it aloud for a nice, home performance featuring your KA dancer.
“Once there was a pony who lived all alone in a small field surrounded by a big fence. The pony was lonely and pawed the ground every morning. Then the pony would trot around the small field, looking for other horses. Every so often the pony would stop, stand very still and then twist its long neck to the left and to the right, shake its mane and shake its tail. Then off it would gallop, around and around the field! Every day was the same!”

Math
Unit 2 continues to move forward into 3D shapes. Students will learn to:
- Compare 3D and 2D shapes (Flat and Solid)
- Identify shapes by noticing their attributes (corners, sides, curves and faces)
- Practice using positional words (above, below, beside, in front of, behind, under, next to)
Finishing up Unit 1
Phonics
In the coming weeks we will focus on our vowels, and move into the H brothers--SH, TH, CH, WH. Guiding reading also begins this week.
Writing
KA has been working on writing books that focus on one topic. Students have begun to build stamina by planning out their books with a buddy and referring to our steps for good writers.
Good Writers
- Think
- Draw
- Label
- Write
- Add Details!
Next week we will begin to challenge our stories by having our writing buddies ask us challenging questions--who, what where, when, why, how? By asking questions we can learn to add more details to our stories. Adding more details to our stories allows for our readers to better understand our topic.
Our Awesome Authors this week are: Lena Quinn and Isabel Frederick.
Lena's Topic was "All About Horses"
Isabel's topic was about her time at Great Wolf Lodge
IB
Our focus this week has been on Community Helpers! Students were curious about doctors, firemen, firewoman, police officers, and teachers. They chose to make puppets out of our community helpers and to act out scenarios where their community helper might be of assistance.
