A Message from Dr. Thurman

Dr. Thurman's Update: April 7, 2020

Purple Up Week for our Military Families

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy, the Month of the Military Child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome.

To honor our military families, we are encouraging our students to dress up in purple, snap a selfie, and email your picture to haley.ashe@cps.k12.ar.us. Check out our social media outlets to see your picture featured!

Medication Pick Up

On Tuesday, March 31, CPS school nurses started contacting parents/guardians to set up an appointment to pick up any medications stored at school, if the parent desires to do so.

If you need to reach our amazing school nurse, please email her at Kimberly.Armstrong@cps.k12.ar.us

Big picture

We Miss You!

At this point, Cabot Public Schools will remain closed for on-site instruction due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The point of contact for your student is their Advisory Teacher. Students are encouraged to check their student emails and Google Classroom frequently for updates from their teachers. Zoom meetings may also be scheduled so teachers and students can have face to face communication.

For a list of teacher email addresses, please go to the CMSS website or using the following link: http://www.cabotschools.org/schools/cabot-middle-school-south/staff

Online Safety is a Top Priority

The safety of our students has always been a top priority here at CMSS. That priority continues as our teachers work to utilize new ways to connect with their students to continue learning through the COVID-19 outbreak. Students may be asked to join online instruction through platforms, like Zoom.

Our teachers will send invites to their students for these meetings to ensure privacy and prevent non-students from hacking into those meetings. If you do not feel comfortable with your child joining these types of meetings, please communicate this with your student's Advisory teacher so an alternate method of communication can be established.

Counseling Support through Cabot Public Schools

During this health crisis, many families may be feeling anxious and overwhelmed. For kids, this can be a particularly scary time. There are so many unknowns.Even though we are not together in our buildings, we are still able to and want to stay connected. Our school counselors have been reaching out to our students.

They are able to provide social and emotional support to students during this challenging time. Counselors can also share information, activities, and connect families to community resources during the extended school closure.

For individual assistance, please email one of our fabulous CMSS Counselors: Jana.Terrell@cps.k12.ar.us or Avery.Harriman@cps.k12.ar.us.

CMSS Selfie Challenge

We miss seeing our students and their families each and every day! We miss being able to "shout out" all the amazing things our students are doing. With that being said, we want selfies of you and your families during these unprecedented times. We want to see you reading a book, riding your bike, creating sidewalk chalk, playing a board game, or whatever you are doing since we are not at CMSS. Email your pics and a brief description to Haley.Ashe@cabotschools.org and watch our social media pages for your picture!

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for Education is still going strong and each box top counts as cash for CMSS! Since 1996, General Mills has donated over $913 million to schools just like CMSS.

You can continue to send in your Box Tops with your student OR you can download the Box Top App and choose CMSS at your school. Then, simply scan your grocery receipt and CMSS will be credited for each eligible item you purchased.
