Papua New Guinea Chapel Project

We are ending our chapel offering project the week of October 9th with a coin war like we did last year during National Lutheran Schools Week. This should be a lot of fun and a great way to end this project.

Unity Walk 2017

Well, we have another Unity Walk behind us. What a great day it was! it was pretty hot for the first day of fall but kid stayed hydrated and had lots of fun! Thank you to all the parent volunteers who made this possible and donations of about $2400 received to help classroom enrichment for the 17-18 school year.

Varsity Girls Volleyball

The varsity girls played Saturday in the second round of the ILSAA Volleyball tournament and came away with a hard fought victory. The girls lost the first game 25-23 but came back the second two to win 25-24 and 15-13. Great job girls!!

On Sunday they played Wyneken at Wyneken for the LSAA championship and won in straight sets to become the 2017 LSAA Girls Volleyball champions! Congratulations to all the girls and a big thanks to coaches Sarah Richman and Angie Bickel.

The girls begin their bid for a state championship during the weekend of Oct 7th-8th in Indy. Good luck girls.

"School to School" Project

SJE has chosen to adopt Memorial Lutheran School in Houston Texas as part of the LCMS School to School project. This has significance as this is the school our 5th grade teacher Mrs. Muehl's daughter teaches at. Look for a special offering project at the end of January for National Lutheran Schools Week.

School Choice Scholarship Event

"HuffPost, in partnership with The Journal Gazette, presents a conversation with community leaders and experts about the economics and academics of school vouchers. The 75-minute panel will be followed by a Q&A. The event will begin at 7 p.m. (doors at 6:30 p.m.) and is free and open to the public. The event is part of HuffPost's "Listen to America" bus tour—a 25-city tour devoted to listening to the concerns of people across the country"

If you are a Choice Scholarship recipient, please consider attending this event. They are really looking for parents with concerns, not those who are happy to have choice. Make your voice heard. Now is the time!! Here is a link to the event invitation.

SGO Donations

This year our SGO donations are off to a great start! The school's need this year is about $18,000, of which we already have over $12,000. We have over 30 students who benefit from this scholarship annually.

If you do not know what an SGO is, it is a scholarship fund solely dependent on individuals, businesses and farmers who donate to the fund and direct it to the school(s) of their choice. Donors receive a 50% Indiana state income tax credit and if the donation is larger than your tax in a given year, you can roll it over for up to 9 years. This year the tax credits were increased from $9 million to $12.5 million. Last year the money was gone before the end of the calendar year and considering the pace it started at this year, it is likely to be gone even sooner.

There are so many way to give. Make sure you take advantage of your opportunity to receive not only a tax credit but a great feeling that your gift helps students continue to receive a Christian education.

Please tell others about this great opportunity and consider giving yourself. Go to www.lutheransgo,org to find out more and donate to SJE.

SJE Endowment

The SJE endowment fund has been around for some time. It is finally at a point that the school can begin using it. That means more now than ever before. contributions made to this fund, make a difference. Also, at the beginning of this school year, the Lutheran Foundation ties grant funds the school receives to donations made to our endowment. In other words, every dollar donated to the SJE endowment is, one, matched into our endowment and, second is a dollar available for the school via the day school grant. In the past that amount has averaged $23,000 each school year. The funds were used for technology upgrades as well as any other classroom or school needs.

This grant, and the endowment fund have become very valuable to the school. So, please consider giving to our endowment fund so that the school has money to apply for to be used in an upcoming school year and long term from our endowment fund. If you have any questions about the endowment, please contact Axel Gruen in the school office at 260-639-0123 or email to
