The Lion's Share Newsletter
May 2021
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
Grant Families,
As always, I hope you are all well! It is hard to think that this will be the last newsletter for a few months as we begin to end this unprecedented year.
I have been reflecting on this year and what it all entailed. We started the year later than usual, taught students both online and in-person at the same time, went fully remote for a short time, went to asynchronous Mondays and then back again to a 5 day school week, before wrapping up the last quarter with most of our online students returning to the building. I have never had a more difficult year in my 20 years serving students. I would like to recognize our teachers for their work, flexibility, and time. Our teachers have gone above and beyond even more so this year, and I really mean it when I say we have the best staff around. As for all of you, our Grant families, I know this year has also been difficult on you and your families for all the reasons mentioned above. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your understanding, your grace, your encouragement, and your support. You have all done a tremendous job and I appreciate you.
As for what next fall will bring, I'm still unsure. As we learn more from D11 and El Paso County Health, I will send out updates to all of you as we approach the start of the year. My personal hope is that we will at least be able to have our families and volunteers return to our building. That is one thing that we all miss...seeing you here in classrooms, at events, and helping out.
I sincerely hope that you will find some time this summer to rest, relax, and catch your breath, even if only for a short time. I hope you find time for family and friends and share some much needed laughter together. Although it will be summer break, please know that I will still be available to all of you at any time. You can always email me or message me through Dojo or Facebook if you have any questions or are in need of something.
I would like to wish our 5th graders and their families the absolute best as they transition into middle school next year. I hope that Grant has been great for your student during their time here. I know that we have enjoyed learning alongside with your student(s). I wish you all the very best as you begin your new adventures.
Make it a great one and thank you,
Ryan Miller
