MESSAGE FROM MRS. FURMAN
I would like to thank Pack 162 Cub Scouts and their adult volunteers for cleaning up our outdoor classroom last weekend! It looks wonderful!
Please remember not to use any private driveways on Main Street to turn around when you are getting in line for pick up.
We would like to thank the PTO and all our volunteers on May 9th at the BOE Meeting and on May 12 at 9:30 in the PES cafeteria, breakfast will be provided. We really appreciate all you do for PES and Region 15. It is what makes us so special. See invitations below.
On May 3rd we will begin the Smarter Balanced Assessment(SBA) for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Please make sure your child brings in their chromebook fully charged every day. In addition have your child get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.
As a reminder, it remains important that you continue to monitor daily for COVID symptoms, and remain home if you suspect you or someone in your household may be ill. Please continue to report all positive COVID cases to our school nurse; and if you test positive, you must remain home for at least five days from symptom onset or if asymptomatic, the date of the test.
As we enter Spring and an increase in seasonal allergies, we ask that if you exhibit any COVID symptoms to please remain home until you are able to confirm that your symptoms are not COVID related. Please contact our school nurse if you need additional test kits.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Furman
Principal

Thank You Pack 162 Cub Scouts!
Last weekend Pack 162 Cub Scouts cleaned up the PES outdoor classroom. They were able to blow away/rake the leaves, cut away any overgrowth and pull out lots of weeds. It was incredible to see everyone come together to get this job done as there were members of the Cub Scouts who attend not only PES but LMES and GES as well. They were all happy and proud to help clean up this classroom. In attendance were Pack Leader Mark Russo, Committee Chair Michael Wilhelm, Advancements Chair Laura Wilhelm, as well as the Capozzi, Prisco, Sonyi, Cast, Engstler, Yost, Keegan, Murzyn/Jacobs and Wilhelm Cub Scouts and families.
PES FIELD DAY 2022
Thursday, June 16th, is our School Field Day at PES. The rain date is Friday, June 17th. This day will include field day activities, teacher competitions, picnic style lunches, popsicles and fun for all. The morning schedule will include Kindergarten – 5th grade field day stations, where students will have the opportunity to participate in activities with others from their own grade levels. We will need Parent Volunteers to run each station. All classroom teachers will rotate through the stations with their own class. We will need at least 2 Parent Volunteers from each class to run each station.
Parents will be able to sign up to volunteer on-line this year:

Schedule of events for Thursday, June 16th .……….Rain Date is Friday, June 17th.
9:40 – 11:40 Field Day Stations for Kindergarten – 5th Grades
11:45 Lunch waves will begin. Students will not have a recess on this day.
1:30 - 2:00/2:15 Teacher competitions/Popsicles
Due to the safety protocols and procedures put in place, we are not able to have parents just “pop in” to see their child on Field Day. It is required that any parent that volunteers must be registered at least one day prior to an event in order to be allowed to assist. With that being said, I am asking all Room Parents to please encourage at least 2 parents from their class to come in for the morning session to help run the stations. The first station will begin promptly at 9:40; therefore, volunteers should report to the gym between 9:15 - 9:30 to receive instructions and plans.
We appreciate all of our volunteers! Your support helps to make sure that all stations are well supervised and that our students are having fun in a safe environment.
If you have any questions, please contact me @ scatuccio@region15.org
Thank You for all of your help!

Teacher and Paraeducator of the Year Nominations
Region 15 invites all school staff, parents and students to submit nominations for the 2022-23 Pomperaug Regional School District Teacher of the Year and the 2022-23 Pomperaug Regional School District Paraeducator of the Year. These awards recognize excellence for all Teachers and Paraeducators through the selection of an outstanding representative Teacher and outstanding representative Paraeducator in our school district.
To submit a nomination for either award, please complete the Region 15 Teacher / Paraeducator of the Year Nomination Form for 2022-23. Please submit your nomination(s) no later than 3:00 pm on Friday May 6, 2022.
Please take a few minutes to nominate one or more Teachers and/or Paraeducators for these honors to recognize their outstanding service to our schools.
PLACEMENT INPUT FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR!
As we approach the end of the school year, one of our most important responsibilities is to place our children in new classes for next year. Our staff will review the educational needs of every child in order to provide the best instructional placement for all children. It is a complicated process that we take very seriously.
Although teachers and other staff have closely observed your child in the classroom environment, this is your opportunity to share information from a parent’s perspective. If you have information that you would like to share with us as we go through the placement process, please complete this google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf3hWD-XH6ZuNIL7q1OkRJ9GPgrf_uG3G0EPKWbu1uiN_aMSg/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0
ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, April 29, 2022.
Here are some important guidelines:
This form is optional. Our staff will look at each child’s individual needs whether or not you submit a letter.
This is not a request for a specific teacher, nor is it a request for your child to be placed with their friends.
Please do not call staff about progress in the placement process or seek information about placements prior to the letters being sent out before the next school year.
Final placement rests with the administration and staff and is based upon many variables. However, if you would like to contribute input to the placement process, it is important to take advantage of this opportunity.
SCHOOL HEALTH AND SAFETY
We continue to follow the guidance of local and state health officials with respect to keeping our school community safe. Be on the lookout for detailed updates from Superintendent Smith.
