March 8 Courier
Laurel Ridge Elementary
It's hard to believe that it is almost time for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students to take the Georgia Milestones. Thank you to everyone who came to our two events recently to learn more about the test. Most students will be taking the test online. You can access a practice test at: http://gaexperienceonline.com/ The practice site will allow students to see what the test will actually look like online and use the testing tools while navigating the site.
The book fair is coming. To volunteer, visit: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d49a8ab2ba0f49-book1
Ms. Genco is looking for input on an e-book collection so that students will have access to books at all times. To provide her input on books you would like to see in the collection, visit: https://goo.gl/forms/xSgacoZRMNuIWFuT2
Eric Hunt Care Closet
Laurel Ridge is going to be starting a Care Closet to support our students and families in need in memory of one of our former employees, Eric Hunt. Mr. Hunt cared deeply for the LRE community and always went above and beyond for our students.
We are asking for families to bring donations top start the closet with them to the Variety Show. We plan to start small and build the closet to include food, clothing, and school supplies. If you are interested in helping us sort and organize the closet, please contact Ms. Kyle at beth_kyle@dekalbschoolsga.org If you don't want to donate items, to the care closet, we will be collecting "Coins for Care" at the Variety Show. You can drop your loose change in the coin sorter when you come to the Variety Show. All coins collected will be put towards organizing and stocking the closet.
Gently Used items:
Jackets (with a zipper, no sweatshirts), Gloves, Scarves, Children’s belts, and Children’s Pants or Shorts

Letter to special education parents:
In collaboration with the Georgia State Department of Education, the DeKalb County School District Special Education Department will conduct a 2018-2019 parent satisfaction survey for parents and guardians of students with disabilities. As always, our goal is to partner with families to raise the achievement and graduation rates for students with disabilities.
The Parent Satisfaction Survey helps the District and the State to measure and determine parent/family needs and perceptions of the success of parent engagement with the local schools. I am excited to inform you that the survey is again a short 10 questions and will be open to all families of students with disabilities.
The 2018 Parent Satisfaction Survey will be available until May 15, 2018 and administered to all parents with students with disabilities through an online link via Infinite Campus email, on our DeKalb County School District website, and can also be accessed at: www.gadoe.org/Parent-Survey
We appreciate your participation and assistance by completing this survey to help us achieve our goal of 80% participation. For additional support, please see the flyer attached below.
