Get to The Pointe!
Meet Get to the Point (GTP)... Bonita Vista High School's established dance company! GTP, lead by Dance Director Ms. Christine Timmons, performs at pep assemblies, sports events, district events, and community events such as Bonitafest, North Park Arts Fest and the annual Spring Dance Concert. These students have a passion for dance, creative minds, desire to learn, form strong friendships, and an outstanding attitude and a flawless commitment to their dance team. Speech and Debate to compete at the NSDA National Champsionships!!
Over the two weeks off for Spring Break, BVHS Speech & Debate competed in three tournaments: The NSDA Southern California Qualifying Tournament in Congressional Debate at Century High School on Saturday, November 17, the NSDA Southern California Qualifying Tournament in Debate and Individual Events hosted on our own campus Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, and the San Diego Novice Last Chance Invitational at Helix Charter High School on Saturday, March 31.

Bonita Vista High School won 1st place Sweepstakes at the Last Chance Invitational by a landslide with several first place finishes including Sophia Epley in Lincoln Douglas, Leonardo Yniguez & Paulina Zacharko in Duo Interpretation, Madison Geering in Oratorical Interpretation and Original Oratory.

Incoming Freshman Parent/Student Informational Night - April 10
We welcome you to join us this Tuesday, April 10th at 5:00 pm for a school welcome and informational night. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. in the quad and enjoy festivities and informational booths. From 5:30 - 7:00 pm. we invite you to attend three sessions throughout the evening where you will be presented with various school information and programs, i.e., Academics, Vocal Music Dept., Athletics, Sports, Counseling, etc.. Hope to see you at Incoming Freshman/student night.

Tardy Sweeps
Staff and Parents,
Tardy Sweeps will at first be random after nutrition break and lunch. After the first two weeks of periodic Tardy Sweeps, they will become permanent. Please review the guidelines:
Tardy Sweep Guidelines
· Once the warning bell rings, teachers are to stand outside by their door and encourage students to get to class.
· Initially, a P.A. announcement will give students a warning of an impending Tardy Sweep after a week or two these announcements will cease.
· Once the final bell rings, all teachers are to lock their doors,
· Student not in classrooms are to go in front of the library to receive a Saturday School detention.
· Student are not to re-enter their classroom without proof of a Saturday school detention notice

SBAC Testing (April 16 - 27)
Dear Parents,
This is a reminder that students are scheduled to take the SBAC test (Statewide testing) in English, Math and Science. The testing schedule runs from April 16 through April, 27. During the testing schedule, BVH will be on a modified bell schedule (see link below).
Grade 11 students will be tested in English and Math.
Grade 12 students will be tested in Science.
Students will be attending all of their regular classes. They will only be testing with their English and or Math teachers. Students who are scheduled to take an AP or IB exam will take their SBAC exams after they have completed their AP or IB exams in English, Math or Science. If your student is absent on one of the scheduled testing dates there will be a makeup session. To help the testing go as smoothly as possible, we ask that you have your students bring their laptops to school fully charged on the scheduled days. In addition, we encourage students to bring their own ear buds for the English portion of the exam. Ear buds will be provided for the exams; however, students would have to share. The Princess Project
The Princess Project promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses and accessories to high school teens who cannot otherwise afford them. The effort is made possible through invaluable volunteer, donor and community support.
- San Diego has been helping teens since 2009 find their prom dress
- We collect 1,000’s of dresses each season. We hope to collect over 2000 this season.
- Over the past 8 years we have given away 6,050 dresses.

NEXT MEETING SCHEDULED ON TUESDAY, April 24 at 2:30 p.m.
The role of the School Site Council (SSC) is to annually evaluate, monitor, and implement the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) which sets our school goals and objectives based on student data and the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).The School Site Council is comprised of the principal, teachers, non-classroom staff, parents, and students. School Site Council are public meetings and open attendance is welcome. If you would like to attend a meeting, please contact Rosalinda Gutierrez at (619) 397-2070.
BVH English Learner Advisory Committee
Due to SBAC testing schedule, the April 12th meeting has been cancelled.
NEXT MEETING SCHEDULED ON THURSDAY, May 17th at 9:00 a.m.The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners. The overall aim of ELAC is to advise the school staff and School Site Council on programs and services for English Learners and contribute to the development of the SPSA. If you would like to join our ELAC committee or attend a meeting, please contact assistant principal, Carlos Siragusa at (619) 397-2000. The ELAC is a public meeting. Parents are welcome to attend all meetings throughout the year.

Below you will find the Save the Date flyer for the 25th annual Adelante Mujer Conference along with the Registration Form. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at UC San Diego from 7:45 am-2:00 pm. The purpose of this event is to help female students learn about career opportunities from professional women. Please open the attachment below for the Registration Form (permission form) or stop by the Counseling or Parent Center to pick one up. Each student attending must complete a the Registration Form and have it signed by their parents. The Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI) is offering a Student Research Internship Program opportunity for highly motivated high school, undergraduate, and professional students taking place at the La Jolla site, starting in June 2018. Spring Student Support Groups
Our Spring student support groups are in session. We are serving over 150 students in a variety of groups: Positive Thinking, Girls-to-Women, Boys-to-Men, Body Image, Sexual Orientation, and Family. These group counseling sessions are helpful in assisting our students learn to better address their personal situations and increase their coping skills and resiliency. Confidentiality of a student’s participation must be highly maintained. For more information about support groups, please contact your student's counselor.

Please don’t wait for the last second to clear your son or daughter for Spring sports. Registration is open now. Please visit registermyathlete.com or bonitavistabarons.com to get started. If your son or daughter would like to play sports for the high school, they need to go to our ASB and get a clearance packet. Boys Golf, Boys and Girls Swimming, and Boys Tennis all start on February 10th. Baseball, Softball, Boys and Girls Track, Boys Volleyball, and Boys and Girls Lacrosse all start on February 17th. Your son or daughter may not try out until they have been cleared by the school.
