COVID Communication
In an attempt to NOT over-communicate to all families at Spencer with emails regarding positive Covid 19 cases, BAS is no longer sending community-wide emails to all parents and guardians for each case, at each building.
We ARE, of course, still sending emails to ALL students, parents, and staff facing mandated quarantines and ALL parents, students, and staff who have been in classrooms where a positive Covid 19 case has been reported.
This week at Spencer, we had 0 new cases. Some students may be under precautionary quarantines that are unrelated to the school district. Families of those directly impacted have already received direct communication regarding any new cases this week. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please feel free to visit our district's COVID-19 transparency site at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/8729"
In addition, the Livingston County Health Department is no longer receiving the reports of positive COVID-19 tests of adults between the ages of 19-64 from the testing sites. For this reason, they are requesting that our parent/guardians self-report if they have tested positive or exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 to allow for the necessary contact-tracing within our school. You will find the link to the to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form below...
PTO News
Game Night for January will be cancelled. We are looking into virtual opportunities for a fun night. Stay tuned.
STEAM Night is typically held in February. Due to Covid-19, we are exploring virtual options for this. We plan to create a Padlet (or similar) platform for students who would like to participate to upload a video of their science project. In addition, we are looking into virtual STEAM options through AA Hands on Museum or another venue.
March is Reading Month! We generally host Book Bingo this month. That event will be cancelled as well, but we are planning an around town scavenger hunt. This event will be open to all Spencer families (including BVA). If you participate, your student(s) will receive a free book from the PTO. More details to come.
The BVA Pickup date for January and February will be combined. One pickup date will be announced soon for a February pickup and will include books for both months.
Our Annual Auction and Carnival planning usually begins this time of year. This event will not be held in person this year. We have decided, as a board, not to ask local businesses for donations this year. We do, however, have a few items that were donated before last March’s shut down. We are looking into virtual auction opportunities for these items.
We are moving forward with the sun shades for the playground! Three locations have been identified for placement. We are getting a new quote and will proceed to get School Board approval when we receive the new quote.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Counselor Corner! Happy New Year from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! We hope you had a well rested, and memory filled, time with your loved ones. For the month of January, we are taking time to further acknowledge and support that extra added stress this crazy year has brought us. We are diving into mindfulness, coping skills, and other practices that treat the mind, body, and soul. The goal of these lessons is to promote self-regulation and self-reflection in our young learners, as well as to practice a sense of peace and calm during our days. Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school. More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
