Rossland Summit School
2020 | November | Updates
WITH HEARTS AND MINDS, WE'RE TURNING VISION INTO ACTION
Principal's Message
We wanted to share with our school community a few updates and highlights from November. As we all know, it is a very different school year and I am pleased that the staff and students at RSS were able to participate in a virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony on the 10th. We sang Oh, Canada, enjoyed student artwork, poems and songs and observed a moment of silence. As this was our first ever virtual ceremony, we were pleased with the outcome.
There are a few updates and mid-month reminders in this newsletter.

Grade 8-9 Report Cards
Communicating Student Learning at Rossland Summit School
It certainly was a challenging start to the year and we continue to navigate new obstacles on our journey together. With this in mind, we are reaching a point in the year when students and teachers are now settling into learning routines and we are turning our attention to assessing and reporting student learning.
Last year several RSS teachers were involved in a Provincial Reporting Pilot and this year we are continuing with these reporting guidelines, as we have been informed that the Province will be moving to this format in September 2021.
What and when can you expect to hear from your child’s teacher regarding learning progress this year?
Please review the documents below for more information ...
Emergency Preparedness
Fire and Lockdown Drills are part of our requirements for emergency preparations.
We have 6 fire drills each year and 2 lockdown drills. We have completed 3 fire drills this fall and will have our first lockdown drill on Wednesday, Nov 18. We are aware that lockdown drills can impact staff and students differently and for this reason we provide plenty of advance notice so that teachers can discuss the purpose and processes related to lockdowns.
