Ryan's Weekly Family Update

10.30.23

Message from the Principal

Dear Ryan Elementary Community,

This community knows how to celebrate Halloween! Most interior doors are decorated and we have 142 artificial pumpkins decorated as storybook characters in the library. Ms. Trippe, our teacher librarian, will announce the winners of the pumpkin decorating contest in this week’s Wednesday announcements. As a reminder, we have Ryan’s Halloween Costume Parade at 8:10 AM tomorrow outside. See map for details. We hope to see you there.

With the changing temperatures, please help make sure your child comes to school with warm clothes. We will try to be outside every day, unless the precipitation is making students too wet, it’s too icy or temperatures are way below 20 degrees. One of the best ways to ensure your child’s hat, gloves, jacket, water bottle, etc. make it home each day is to have it labeled. We can return items with student’s names on it much easier than if it’s not labeled. In addition, when students leave the cafeteria from lunch, they have designated spots to stop outside before they head off to play. The purpose of this stop zone is to help students leave any items that they bring outside, including clothing and lunchboxes, in the same location each day. This helps keep items with their class rather than spread out around the playground. If you are in need of assistance with any clothing items this fall and winter, please contact our family liaison, Miriam Wright, at miriam.wright@bvsd.org.

Please check out the lost and found while you’re here to increase the odds of items being located. The items not claimed will be donated next week.

It’s always a great day to be a Rhino! Go Rhinos!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Jackman

Principal

Ryan's Halloween Costume Parade!

Costume Parade 8:10-8:30
Parents are welcome to observe from outside the building at the entrance of the school and from the blacktop on the playground.
See map for details
Classroom Parties will happen after the parade. Each classroom teacher has sent out information on what the day will look like in their classroom.
Costume Guidelines
  • Students are invited to wear school appropriate costumes: no violence, blood, gore, face paint or weapons
  • masks will be permitted during parade
  • Please bring a change of clothes
Treats: All snacks must be store bought and individually wrapped, please label for allergies.

Additional activities will be available for students who do not participate in Halloween activities.

**For parents who come to observe the costume parade outside, they will NOT come into the building and will NOT sign in.

***For parents who come inside to participate in an indoor class party, they will need to come to the office, sign in and get a badge sticker. (This will require parents to have already completed the background check/bring their IDs with them for us to scan.)

This process could take some time, please be patient as the office staff prints badges for all adults entering the building.

Lost & Found Announcement

We have a tremendous amount of lost items in our building!

Be sure to label your child's things!

Please come by and see if anything belongs to your family!

Items will be donated the first week of November!

Coffee + Connection Thursday November 2nd

Join us on Thursday, November 2 from 7:55-8:30am, for our first Coffee + Connections.

Stick around for a bit after morning drop-off to enjoy some coffee and informal time to connect with Mrs. Jackman or other admin at Ryan.

Open Enrollment Window

BVSD Open Enrollment begins Tuesday, November 1, until Wednesday, January 9 at 4pm and will be done online.

Ryan will be hosting an Open Enrollment Tour on Wednesday, November 15th 3:30-4:30

Current KG through 4th grade Ryan students do not need to do anything for their enrollment for next school year, so long as they have not moved out of the Ryan attendance area this school year. All KG through 4th grade Rhinos who are currently open enrolled to Ryan or living in the attendance area will automatically roll-up for next school year. If you have moved out of the Ryan attendance area this school year, or know you're going to, and wish to have your child remain at Ryan, you will need to register for Open Enrollment. Questions? Reach out to Jamie Hanes at 720.561.7007 OR jamie.hanes@bvsd.org.

Student Council News!

Anytime throughout the month of OCTOBER you can participate in Trick-or-Treat for Unicef. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF donations go to critical, flexible funding that can be used to help children where they need it most. Nearly 90% of this funding goes directly to programs that provide essentials like education, safe water and vaccinations against deadly childhood diseases.Flexible funds are crucial to UNICEF’s work in over 190 countries and territories, and to its massive humanitarian supply network, which can rush essentials like blankets or medicine anywhere in the world within 72 hours. This is especially critical as UNICEF responds to hundreds of emergencies and complex humanitarian situations every year.

BVSD's School Messenger support and notifications

Boulder Valley School District recently tested their emergency alert system.

The test alert included a phone call, text message and email to those opted in to receive BVSD Communications.

Users can adjust their communication preferences as desired via these instructions.

If you did not receive a text message, and would like to opt-in to receive text messages from the district and schools through SchoolMessenger, opting-in is a two-step process:

  • The person's cell phone number must be in a cell phone field in Infinite Campus (students/parents) or Infor/Lawson (employees).
  • They then send a text message from their cell phone to “67587” with the word “yes” in the message. They may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.

Attendance Annoucement

If your child has an appointment during school hours, please ask the medical office for a school excuse note and bring it to the Ryan office.

To report your child's absences, please enter it through your Parent Portal or call the Attendance Line 720.561.7002 and remember to include the REASON FOR THE ABSENCE!

We understand sometimes our students need to be out for an extended period of time. We ask, if you know your child will be out for more than 3 days, to please fill out this form in addition to reporting the absence throught the portal or attendance line.

Good habits start early! Research shows regular attendance at school has a DRAMATIC impact on student progress. Please see the How Sick Is To Sick guidelines as well as the BVSD attendance policy.

5th Grade Instrumental Music

Instrumental music is in full swing for our 5th graders every Monday and Thursday! Please ensure your 5th grade musician's success by helping them remember their instruments each Monday and Thursday. Things can get crazy in the office, our delivery team might not always make out into the building promptly to get instruments to students.

Health Room Announcement

Request from Ryan's Health Room

  • Please send your child a snack and water bottle EVERYDAY!

  • We are looking for HEALTHY SNACKS(items like: goldfish, granola bars, veggie straws, crackers) for the Health Room, please drop by with your donations in the front office and we will get them to the teachers. Thank you!

  • Trips, spills and thrills happen: please remember to send your child with a change of clothes, especially in our younger elementary grades, we have all sorts of accidents and often kiddos prefer clothes of their own. Thank you!

If your child needs medication at school, our healthroom para, Chrystal Terhune chrystal.terhune@bvsd.org would be happy to help you in the front office. You will need Doctor's orders and the Medication Authorization form as well.

Please do NOT send medication to school in your child's backpack.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom or bring treats and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the upcoming book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well! Please take a moment to fill out the background check through raptor: https://www.bvsd.org/parents-students/get-involved/volunteers and click here to see what opportunities we have available Help at School

We appreciate your help! Thanks!
